🚨SCAM ALERT: The Endicott Police Department is warning of an increase in scams targeting older adults, by falsely claiming there are problems with their bank accounts.
Scammers may call, text, email, or send pop-up messages on computers, while pretending to be a bank or financial institution. They often create a sense of urgency, and pressure them to act immediately by providing personal information or moving money.
⚠️ Important reminders:
• Banks will never ask for your PIN, password, or one-time verification codes
• Do not send money, gift cards, or transfer funds at someone else’s request
• Scammers may already have access to your account and know exactly how much money is in it
• Hang up and contact your bank directly, using the phone number on your bank card or statement
• Talk with a trusted friend or family member before taking action
If you or a loved one receive a suspicious call or message, do not engage. Report it immediately to your bank and local law enforcement 🚩Stay vigilant!
