Enfield Police Department K-9 Unit The Enfield Police Department K9 Unit has four K9 teams. The fourth team is a single purpose narcotics detection lab.

Three GSD patrol dogs, two are cross trained in narcotics detection and a third is cross trained in fi****ms detection.

On August 2nd, 2026, the Enfield Police Department became aware of a stolen motor vehicle that came into the town. Officers began monitoring the vehicle and eventually attempted to stop it, but it fled and based on State policy, the officers discontinued the pursuit. Even without officers in pursuit of the vehicle, it was observed traveling in excess of 100 MPH and in an extremely reckless manner. Officers were able to deploy a tire deflation device to disable the vehicle at which point the operator fled on foot. K-9 Odin was deployed, tracking the suspect through dense vegetation, swamplands, across a pond, and eventually apprehended the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Mark Alicea DOB: 10/21/1986 was charged with: CGS 53a-119c Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, CGS 53a-117 Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, CGS 53a-63 Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, CGS 53a-167a Interfering with a Police Investigation, CGS 14-223(b) Engaging Police in a Pursuit, CGS 14-222 Reckless Driving, CGS 14-215a Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, and CGS 14-215a Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. He was held on a $200,000 cash/surety bond.

It was discovered that Alicea had an extraditable arrest warrant from Worcester County for Arson. He was also charged with CGS 54-170 Fugitive from Justice and held on an additional $800,000 cash/surety bond.

We thank our neighboring law enforcement partners from Connecticut State Police - Troop C K9 for their assistance in establishing a perimeter during this incident.

On Thursday July 30th, NorcomCT sponsored the First Responders Night at Dunkin stadium in Hartford. As part of the opening ceremony, Enfield Police Department K-9 Officer Michael Colantuono was recognized with the Legacy of Service Award for his twenty-two years of service in law enforcement with both the NYPD and currently with the Enfield Police Department. To say the least, the recognition is well deserved. Mike shows no sign of slowing down and we expect him to be around for many more years.

On June 26th during the evening shift officers responded to for an active larceny at Kohls. The suspect left the store and fled into the woods behind the location. A perimeter was set and K9 Duke began to track. The track went through a wooded area into a residential neighborhood where the suspect was located as he was attempting to hide in a backyard. This was approximately 1/4 mile from the store.

On June 21st officers responded to an address in Enfield for a juvenile in crisis that left the residence. Officers requested a K9 to the scene to track the missing juvenile. K9 Duke responded approximately 45 minutes after the time of call and immediately began tracking the missing juvenile. K9 Duke tracked for a 1/4 mile where he located the juvenile hiding along the roadway on the bank of a creek.

On Monday June 15th, an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a BMW on Interstate 91 north by exit 47 after observing multiple vehicle violations. During the traffic stop multiple criminal indicators were observed leading officers to believe there was contraband inside of the vehicle. K9 Dunkin was utilized for a free air sniff around the vehicle where he displayed a positive alert for narcotics odor. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted where officers located a half kilogram (515 grams) of co***ne. The operator of the vehicle, Iden Moreno-Rivera 8/27/95 was placed under arrest and processed for the following charges, possession of a controlled substance 21a-279(a)(1), possession with intent to sell a controlled substance 21a-277(a(1A+, operation of a drug factory 21a-277(c), following too closely 14-240(b, and failure to wear a seat belt 14-100a(c)(1).

As part of the ongoing investigation the DEA Springfield office conducted a search and seizure warrant at a location in Springfield where they recovered over 50 grams of fentanyl.

Moreno-Rivera was arraigned on June 16th and is currently in custody with the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $250,000 bond.

On Wednesday
, Enfield police conducted a traffic stop on I91 southbound near exit 46. An on scene investigation led officers to believe that there was narcotics inside the vehicle. K9 Odin was utilized for a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle where he alerted to the presence of an illegal narcotic odor. A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 4.5 grams of powder co***ne and drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday K9 Dunkin and the drone team assisted evening shift with apprehending two suspects. A male wanted on an active arrest warrant and domestic violence incident fled a location prior to officers arrival. Once K9 Dunkin started tracking the drone team picked up both suspects walking south along the rail road tracks. As the drone team remained over head with the eyes in the sky, the K9 team was closing their distance and the two suspects were stopped by a patrol district holding a perimeter location. A female that was with the male at the time was also found to be in possession of a quantity of narcotics.

Last night at approximately 9pm the K9 Unit answered a mutual aid request from the Town of Bloomfield. K9 Dunkin was utilized for a track of an elderly missing female with dementia, who was last seen leaving their residence at 8pm. K9 Dunkin successfully located the missing female in thick brush stuck in mud less than a 1/4 mile from her residence!! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ‘
