Today at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Englewood Cliffs Fire Department was dispatched to 495 Sylvan Avenue for an activated fire alarm.
Arriving units encountered a heavy smoke condition and immediately transmitted a working fire assignment.

Due to challenging building features and weather conditions, the incident was quickly upgraded to a 4-alarm+ fire. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze, and we are grateful to report that no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel have been reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fort Lee Fire Investigation Unit.

All roads in the effected area have been reopened.

The Englewood Cliffs Fire Department extends its sincere gratitude to all of our mutual aid partners who responded to assist us on the scene today.

Early this morning at approximately 12:20AM the ECFD was dispatched to 487 Sylvan Ave (The Bicycle Club) for a reported smoke coming from the building and an activated fire alarm.

FD units on scene found a working fire in the second floor kitchen and transmitted a working fire assignment.

Companies knocked down the main body of fire within 20 minutes but due to extension to the structure had to perform extensive overhaul. The fire was brought under control within 90 minutes.

The fire is currently under investigation and not considered suspicious. Thank you to our mutual aid partners from Fort Lee, Englewood, Tenafly, Edgewater, Leonia, Cliffside Park, and Palisades Park for their assistance on scene or providing coverage for the borough.

Please help support The Bicycle Club as the work to reopen. They are an integral part of Englewood Cliffs and do so much to help the community.

At 5:22PM the ECFD as part of the Bergen County Battalion 1 Strike Team was dispatched to Belleville in Essex County to assist with a 10+Alarm fire in multiple large industrial properties.

While still operating in Belleville, at 9:51PM, the ECFD high angle rescue team was requested to The State Line Lookout in Alpine as part of the East Bergen Rappel Team to rescue a victim over the cliffs. That victim was transported via helicopter to Hackensack University Medical in critical condition.

Last night members of the Englewood Cliffs Fire Department conducted a Live Fire Engine Company Operations Practical at the Bergenfield Fire Training Center as part of a multi-class program training program with Technical Fire Services and the Bergenfield Fire Training Center.

This afternoon the ECFD was dispatched to 910 Sylvan Ave for a SUV on fire in the underground parking garage. Due to the size of the building and life-hazard use, a working fire assignment was transmitted, which in addtion to Englewood Cliffs fire units, brought in an Englewood Engine, a Fort Lee Truck, and a Teanafly RIC team.

The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes with no reprorted injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and not considered suspicious.

Englewood Cliffs Units operating on scene were EC-9, EC-8, EC-7, EC-2, EC-1.
