Bergen Family Center

Bergen Family Center Bergen Family Center is Bergen County's oldest family service agency.

In 1898, our organization was created, serving
12 children in an after-school program with an annual budget of $100. Over 110 years later, we provide essential, life-altering services to 5,000 clients in our local community. We take great pride in the breadth and quality of our programs and in the knowledge that our work strengthens families for generations to come. At Bergen Family Center, diver

sity, equity, inclusion, and engagement are central to our organizational values. We strive to eliminate disparities caused by systemic inequities and confront unconscious bias. We are committed to implementing policies and practices that promote equity and justice in our workplace and community.

At Bergen Family Center, we believe that real change begins with listening.
During a recent Coffee with the Mayor event hosted by the Englewood Public Library, our CEO, Aaron Daly, shared how his own experiences growing up on the Lower East Side of New York continue to shape his leadership today.
One message stood out:
“Our job is not to tell the community what it needs. Our job is to listen.”
That philosophy guides everything we do from supporting children and families to creating meaningful connections for older adults.
Aaron also shared a simple but powerful reminder:
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
At Bergen Family Center, we choose to go far by building partnerships, investing in people, and creating opportunities for every member of our community to thrive.
One of the most inspiring examples of that work is seeing seniors read to young children in our programs, bringing generations together and strengthening the bonds that make our community stronger.
Because our work is about more than programs.
It’s about people.
It’s about belonging.
It’s about building a brighter future together.
❤️ Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation.

The Mommy & Me class recently completed a special butterfly project! 🦋

The children began by observing tiny caterpillars and learning about the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly. Throughout the project, they watched the transformation process firsthand, discovering how caterpillars grow, form a chrysalis, and eventually emerge as beautiful butterflies.

This hands-on experience gave the children an opportunity to learn about nature, growth, and change while building curiosity and excitement along the way.

To celebrate the end of the project, the children gathered to release the butterflies into nature, creating a memorable moment for everyone involved. Watching the butterflies take flight was a wonderful reminder of the beauty of learning and growth.

📚✨ A Day of Learning and Discovery at the Library! ✨📚

This past week, our HIPPY families enjoyed a special visit to the library! Parents learned about the importance of reading with their children and explored the many resources available to support early childhood development.

Meanwhile, the children had a wonderful time attending Story Hour, listening to engaging read-alouds, playing, exploring the library, and even signing up for their very own library cards! 📖💙

Experiences like these help foster a love of reading, learning, and lifelong curiosity.

The Rotary Club of Englewood’s Teens for Peace initiative brought our community together to celebrate young leaders who are making a difference through kindness, service, and peace. 💙
We were proud to take part in the planting of Englewood’s 6th Peace Pole at Liberty School, honoring students from Janis Dismus Middle School, The Charter School on the Palisades, The Moriah School, Elisabeth Morrow School, and Dwight-Englewood School for their dedication to building a more compassionate and united community.
Our CEO, Aaron Daly, and BFC Board Chair Harry Martin, joined local leaders, including Mitch Schonfeld, Lisa Wisotky, Kenneth Rosenzweig, and Kevin Wilson, among others, for this special event celebrating the power of youth leadership and community collaboration.
The evening also featured a Resolution from District 37, presented by Senator Gordon Johnson, recognizing the positive impact of Teens for Peace and its partnership with Bergen Family Center.
Mayor Michael Wildes honored Mitch Schonfeld with a Key to the City in recognition of his years of service and commitment to the youth and families of Englewood.
A heartfelt thank you to the Rotary Club of Englewood, Bergen Family Center, educators, students, volunteers, and community partners for continuing to inspire and empower the next generation. ✨
