September is National Preparedness Month.

EMS, fire and law enforcement prepare for emergencies every day.

But the strongest communities are the ones where residents prepare too.

This month is a good time to ask:

*Are emergency alerts turned on?
*Does your family have a plan?
*Do you have essential medications available?
*Could your household manage several days without normal services?
*Does your plan include pets?
* Is there someone nearby who may need extra help?

Recent flooding across the West has shown again how quickly an ordinary day can become an emergency. Prepared communities help responders do their jobs—and recover faster afterward.

On National Aviation Day, we’re celebrating the crews who take emergency medical care to the skies.

Colorado’s air-medical teams bring advanced care to patients across some of the most challenging terrain in the country—often when distance and time matter most.

Today we recognize the flight paramedics, flight nurses, pilots, mechanics, communications teams and everyone behind the scenes who helps make these missions possible.

Colorado EMS is essential.

Today marks an important milestone for emergency medical services across our state.

Colorado law now formally recognizes EMS as an essential service and an integral part of Colorado’s healthcare infrastructure.

From our largest cities to our rural and frontier communities, EMTs, paramedics, ambulance services, air-medical teams, educators, medical directors and EMS leaders are there when Colorado needs them.

Today, we celebrate that recognition—and everyone who makes Colorado EMS possible.

Officially recognized. Always essential.

This week is (OSHA) Safe + Sound Week, a reminder that workplace safety deserves the same attention we give patient safety.

For EMS and public-safety agencies, that means looking beyond PPE.

It means:
• Heat rehabilitation
• Safe lifting
• Roadway scene protection
• Violence prevention
• Fatigue management
• Training safety
• Reporting near misses

What is one safety practice your agency never compromises on?
