Crawford County Indiana Veterans Memorial Association

Crawford County Indiana Veterans Memorial Association The memorial will be funded by donations only, not by county funds. We believe this tribute is long overdue. This can only be achieved through your donations.

The non-profit Crawford County Indiana Veterans Memorial Association was formed by the Crawford County Historical & Genealogical Society with the local Veterans organizations of English VFW Post 6160, Marengo American Legion Post 84, Milltown American Legion Post 332, and Alton American Legion Post 133. The county is furnishing land for the site near the Crawford County Court House and Archives bu

idling and the Historical Society plans to host a special military section with photos and the veterans information inside the Archives building. Our goal is to erect the memorial in the fall of 2017, in time for Crawford County's 200th birthday in 2018. Send to CCIVA Treasuer Mary Edwards at 1090 E. Melton Rd., English, IN 47118. The proposed memorial will set on a star shaped concrete area, with two stones four feet wide by six feet tall on each point. Approximately 6000 veterans names will be engraved on the stones. To make sure your veteran is not omitted, contact Roberta Toby at 812-365-9067. The association invites the public to their monthly meetings held on the 4th Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the English VFW post. Come join us!

Veterans Memorial Set For Dedication

November 08, 2017
Following years of planning, fundraising and hard work, the public is invited for the dedication of the Crawford County Veterans Memorial at English.

The ceremony will be on Saturday โ€” Veterans Day โ€” and will begin at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by the Crawford County Indiana Veterans Memorial Association.

The memorial, located north of the Crawford County Judicial Complex, is made up of several monuments, including one for each of the six branches of the military โ€” Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard โ€” and features a base comprised of concrete and inscribed bricks, with the latter having been sold as a fundraiser by the CCIVMA.

Mark Hollen, owner of Marengo Monument Co., donated his labor on the monuments, while Koetter Construction provided labor on the monument's base at a reduced rate. In addition, several others, including past members of the CCIVMA and other area businesses, contributed to the effort. The project received a significant boost when the Community Foundation of Crawford County awarded two Signature Grants of $10,000 each.

Saturday's program will feature live music by the Crawford County Community Band, an invocation by a local pastor and, following a welcome by CCIVMA president Daniel Crecelius, a reading of "Old Glory" by Mary Edwards.

In addition, all veterans will be recognized, with those from World War II given a certificate as well as a pin donated by Cindy Davis in honor of her father, Robert Davis, and, after remarks from special guests, including Indiana Ninth District Congressman Trey Hollingsworth, a wreath will be placed at the memorial.

Following the dedication, guests will be able to have refreshments and view a military display in the adjacent Crawford County Annex Building.
