Here in Enid we witness human suffering that most people never even comprehend. We at Enid SOS have chosen to help ease this suffering. We build connections and relationships at some of the lowest points in people lives. We see sadness in their lives but also a glimmer of hope after a hot meal or a warm shower. Itโs definitely hard work for our volunteers in a system that is under resourced in our community.
Many of our volunteers have said they never knew that there were this many people homeless on our community. Their eyes wide open now they often find themselves worrying about where people sleep, eat and use the bathroom.
We often have conversations about how we can give them much more like affordable housing such as supported housing and basic necessities. We also hear hateful comments towards the people who we serve. Sometimes we think no one cares.
We have tried to talk about bathrooms downtown, affordable housing, safe spaces for all.
We watch year after year programs cut like SNAP.
People donโt know the grief we carry by seeing people pass living outside. We see people sabotaging their progress. This is tough and we know our community needs us to continue serving.
We need funds to continue our work.
We serve no income, low income people. In our resources center we have free clothing, showers, laundry detergent, hygiene supplies, washer and dryer 10 lbs limit each time.
We keep local statistics to share.
Last year Enid SOS impact was 21000 meals, gave away 10,000 pieces of clothing, served 529 households. We also had a successful back to school project that helped over 200 children with shoes, clothing, backpacks, school supplies, snacks, socks etc.
We still need funds to continue our work.
