Monday Weather Outlook from Garfield County Emergency Management – 8/31/2026

Another hot and dry day is ahead. ☀️

Today:

Sunny and hot, with highs around 102–103°F. South winds will be 10–15 mph, with gusts up to around 25 mph.

The heat will be the main concern today, with triple-digit heat index values possible. Across the Garfield County area, temperatures will be around 102–103°F, with heat index values also reaching the triple digits.

🔥 Elevated fire weather conditions are also expected this afternoon and early evening. Very dry vegetation, hot temperatures, low humidity, and breezy south winds will create an increased potential for fires to start and spread quickly.

For the Garfield County area, afternoon humidity could fall into the 20% range while south winds increase through the afternoon. Outdoor burning and activities that create sparks or open flames are discouraged.

💧 If you're working or spending time outside today, stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon. NEVER leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Tonight:

Clear and warm, with lows in the mid 70s. South winds will remain around 10–15 mph.

Overall, expect another hot, dry day, with elevated fire danger and dangerous heat for anyone spending extended periods outdoors.

Feel Good Friday looks a little different this week.

I am sure most of you are aware we lost one of our own this week, Sgt Lee Frisendahl.

There is certainly nothing that feels good about losing a friend, a coworker, a husband, a father and a brother in blue. But today, rather than focusing only on the sadness of his passing, we want to remember Lee for the life he lived and the people he touched along the way.

Lee was a family man.

One officer who started at EPD alongside Lee shared this memory:

“Lee and I started at the same time. We went through CLEET together. During graduation, Lee’s son, Couper, escaped from Becky’s arms. Couper ran up to Lee while he was trying to accept his CLEET diploma and wouldn’t give up until Lee held him.”

Even in a moment that was supposed to be about an accomplishment in Lee’s career, his family was never too far from his heart.

Lee was compassionate and caring.

One officer shared, “Lee noticed I was struggling with a certain aspect of my job and pulled me aside and prayed with me”.

That was Lee. He paid attention. He cared about the people around him and was always willing to step in when someone needed some extra support.

Lee was a lot of fun.

One story that gave us a little giggle came from a time when Lee and another officer were riding together. They went to make a traffic stop when one of them accidentally keyed up on the radio as they went after the vehicle. What everyone on the other end heard was Lee yelling, “Yeehaw, boys! Let’s go get’em!!”

Another story is how he loved to joke around and give people a hard time:

“On nights Lee was my gym partner, we went to the gym every morning at 2am together. One night, I was done and in the locker room changing and he was lifting weights in the gym and the bar hit loud! I ran out there thinking he was hurt.. He never let me live it down because he was perfectly fine”.

That was Lee, The kind of guy who could bring some laughter to a long shift and make the people around him smile.

Lee knew how to bring people together.

Those who worked with him talk about how he could get everyone pumped up during muster and ready to take on the shift ahead. He had a way of reminding everyone that they were part of something bigger than themselves.

Lee was generous.

He was always willing to help someone whether at work or in his personal life.

Lee loved cars.

He was a true car enthusiast and collector. He loved talking about cars, sharing what he knew and teaching others about them.

These are just a few stories that have been shared with us. We could go on and on all day with fun and cherished memories about Lee.

While we will always grieve the loss of Sgt Frisendahl, we also want to remember and celebrate the life he lived, the laughter he brought, the people he helped and the memories he left.

We already miss you Lee.

Rest easy, Sir.

Today’s Weather Update From Garfield County Emergency Management - 8/27/2026

We’re looking at another hot day across the area, but overall things should stay fairly quiet.

There are a few stray thunderstorms floating around this morning, so don’t be surprised if you hear some thunder or see a quick shower in spots. These storms are pretty hit-or-miss, so most of the area will likely stay dry.

Today will be partly sunny with highs in the mid 90s. Northeast winds will be around 5–10 mph, giving us a little bit of a breeze, but it’s still going to be a hot one.

Tonight, skies will become mostly clear with temperatures dropping into the upper 60s. East winds will remain light at 5–10 mph.

If you’re going to be working outside today, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and taking breaks from the heat. Even with a few stray storms around this morning, the main story today will be the heat.

Tomorrow, we will welcome home our brother and friend #963 Sgt. Lee Frisendahl.

An es**rt of Enid Police Department Honor Guard, along with members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Garfield County Sheriff's Office, Hunter Fire Department, Kremlin Fire Department and Mercy Ambulance Service will travel along Garriott from Oklahoma City, enroute to Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Please join us at the Enid Police Department and along Garriott to honor him and his homecoming.

We expect the procession to pass the station about 11:15 a.m.
