PA State Association of Township Supervisors PSATS: The Voice of Pennsylvania Townships. Working to preserve and strengthen township government.
(1)

More than 5.5 million Pennsylvanians have chosen to settle in townships of the second class. These communities are led by an elected board of either three or five township supervisors -- people who essentially volunteer their time and talents to make these areas better places to live, work, and play. PSATS was created by the Pennsylvania General Assembly more than 90 years ago. Today, it provides

township supervisors from across the state with a wealth of training opportunities, representation before state and federal government, and a one-stop resource for local government information. PSATS maintains that local government allows residents to have a strong and active voice in the governance of their community. As Thomas Jefferson said, "The government closest to the people serves the people best."

PSATS Question of the Week!

If you’re a new township secretary, you may have heard that reporting sites require a “personal” email address. PSATS Holly explains what that means, why shared logins are discouraged, and how multi-factor authentication affects township reporting accounts.

If you’re a new township secretary, you may have heard that reporti...

Are townships standing in the way of progress? No!

But some in Harrisburg seem to want total control. This week, there was a vote to expand the prevailing wage law to pre-fab products for public works projects, and a vote negating community input on housing legislation.

🚨🚨🚨Local Decision-Making Victory as Senate Amends Housing Bill!!!🚨🚨🚨

In response to PSATS' concerns, the state Senate unanimously amended SB 1281 yesterday to clearly preserve local land-use decision-making for residential construction. The bill’s stated objective is to provide options for expedited construction plan reviews for various housing types under the oversight of the state Department of Labor and Industry.

While PSATS remains opposed to an expanded role for the State Planning Board in the legislation and unclear provisions, and has made these concerns clear to the Senate, the Association has conditionally withdrawn its opposition to the bill at this time to work with the Senate on the many housing bills currently under consideration.

Thank you to the many township officials who reached out to their legislators on this bill.

📢Please continue to engage with your state senator and state representative about the importance of local land-use decision-making. 👁️Both chambers have bills to keep an eye on!
