Enon-Mad River Township Fire and EMS

Enon-Mad River Township Fire and EMS We proudly protect more than 12,000 citizens living in the 32 square miles of Mad River Township (including the Village of Enon).

The Mad River Township Fire Department was formed in 1924 by citizens of the township. The citizens purchased first piece of equipment, a 50 gallon chemical trailer. In 1949, the township purchased its first pumper (engine) from Central Fire Equipment. In that same year the trustees appointed the first fire chief, Chief Charles Tyler. The townships first fire station was located two doors west of

the traffic light on the north side of Main Street. This station housed two fire engines until 1956, when the fire association purchased land on East Main Street where a new firehouse was built and dedicated in 1957. Since then, the firehouse has been located at the East Main Street location and was remodeled in 2002 with the old bays becoming office space and living quarters. When the new station was completed, a merger of the townships fire and EMS departments occurred, a monumental day for the township. Also in 2002, new apparatus bays were added to the West side of the property to house the departments emergency equipment. Today the department operates two ALS Medic Units, two Engines, a Rescue Engine, a 77' Quint Ladder Truck, a Brush Truck and an all purpose Utility vehicle. In addition, the department also has a water rescue boat, as well as a HAZMAT Trailer for damming and diking operations for the Clark County HAZMAT Team.

🚨Weather Alert🚨

From the U.S. National Weather Service:

"The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency have issued an Air Quality Alert for Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Shelby counties in the Miami Valley Region, until midnight tonight.

Fine particulate levels are expected to be in the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' range. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor exposure.

For additional actions and information, visit miamivalleyair.org or call 937-223-6323

Additionally, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.

Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.

It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

For additional information, please visit the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's website at epa.ohio.gov."

Currently AccuWeather has our area listed as:

Very Unhealthy

"Health effects will be immediately felt by sensitive groups and should avoid outdoor activity. Healthy individuals are likely to experience difficulty breathing and throat irritation; consider staying indoors and rescheduling outdoor activities"

Current Air Quality Index (AQI) is: 236
