Labor Day weekend is just around the corner, and Wallowa Lake is a great place to spend the long weekend. πŸ’›

Spend the day paddling the lake by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard, then head out on one of the area's scenic hiking trails to experience the Wallowa Mountains from a different perspective.

Extend your stay by booking a nearby cabin, lakeside lodge or campground and make the most of your time in Wallowa County. Looking for your next hike in Wallowa County? Here are two trails worth adding to your summer plans:

πŸ₯Ύ Copper Creek Trail offers a challenging climb into the Eagle Cap Wilderness with rewarding mountain views, alpine scenery and access to stunning high-country landscapes.

πŸ’§ Falls Creek Trail follows a scenic creek through the forest before reaching a beautiful waterfall, making it a great option for a rewarding day hike.

Both trails are currently open and are typically excellent choices for August hiking. Before you go, be sure to check the latest trail conditions, watch for wildfire updates, carry plenty of water and practice Leave No Trace principles.

Have you hiked either of these trails?

Wildfire activity is affecting parts of Wallowa County, and conditions can change quickly. If you're planning to visit, please stay informed and be prepared to adjust your plans as needed. Smoke, road closures, fire restrictions and evacuation notices may change throughout the day.

Before heading out, check current road conditions, air quality and any active fire or evacuation updates. While you're here, continue monitoring conditions, follow all posted closures and official detours, and never drive around barricades. If you're traveling through remote areas, carry extra water, snacks, a full tank of gas and an emergency kit.

Helpful resources:
β€’ TripCheck for current road conditions and closures.
β€’ Oregon Smoke Information for the latest air quality.
β€’ ORAlert to sign up for emergency alerts.
β€’ Oregon State Fire Marshal for wildfire updates and preparedness information.

A huge thank you to the firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel and volunteers working to protect Wallowa County and communities across Oregon. We are so grateful for your dedication, courage and countless hours spent keeping people and places safe. πŸ’›

Float or raft the Grande Ronde River for scenic canyon views, raft the Wallowa River near Minam for a family-friendly adventure, or experience Hells Canyon on the Snake River with guided rafting and fishing trips.

Before heading out, be sure to check current river conditions, water levels and weather forecasts, and always recreate responsibly on the water.
