Grand Park 2 Fire and Wonderland Complex Update 8.31.26:

CURRENT STATUS: Drying conditions and lingering morning clouds shaped operations across the Grand Park 2 Fire and the Wonderland Complex. The overnight infrared flight confirmed minimal growth across all fires, with activity limited mainly to creeping, smoldering, and slow backing through heavy fuels sheltered beneath thick canopy. Over the past two days, Grand Park 2 remained at 168 acres with no new growth. Garda Falls increased by 9 acres, slowly backing toward Winthrop Creek, while the West Fork Fire grew by 25 acres from rollout and backing into the West Fork of the White River drainage. The Pigeon Fire remained unchanged at 8 acres.
GRAND PARK 2 FIRE: 168 acres | 88% contained
At Grand Park 2, firefighters continued patrolling and assessing interior heat, including smoldering duff and residual hotspots near the Huckleberry drainage. Although precipitation fell, dry, heavy fuels continue to hold heat. Crews secured a small segment of line in the Huckleberry drainage, increasing the fire's overall containment percentage. The northwest corner remains inaccessible due to steep terrain but has shown no detectable heat for several days and will continue to be tracked by air resources. Personnel plan to patrol, prepare sling loads to remove gear, and clear the Fir Tree Spike Camp ahead of the incoming storm system. An afternoon aerial reconnaissance flight confirmed secure containment lines along the fire's perimeter.
WONDERLAND COMPLEX: 378 acres | 0% contained
Across the Wonderland Complex, the hand crew, suppression module, and faller module used the window of slower fire activity to continue thinning work around elite whitebark pine identified by resource advisors south of the Sunrise Visitor Center. Crews also took advantage of the weather to prepare equipment for future operations. An afternoon aerial reconnaissance flight showed minimal activity on all fires. Resources across the complex remain ready to respond to any new starts.
WEATHER: A brief drying trend continues into today. Beginning tomorrow evening, chances of showers increase, followed by multiple rounds of wetting rain expected to begin mid-week.

CLOSURES: The Sunrise Visitor Center and the Wonderland Trail are closed. The White River Wilderness Information Center is open; however, White River Road to White River Campground and Sunrise Road from the White River Campground to Sunrise Visitor Center are closed. White River Campground is only open to those with permits. All trails originating from these park roads and all trails in the Grand Park area are closed until further notice. The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest issued a closure order for the Ranger Creek Campground, Ranger Creek Airstrip, Suntop Trailhead, and the entirety of Forest Road 7160—212 to support fire suppression operations and protect public and firefighter safety. Previous closures of multiple Forest Service roads, trailheads, and trails remain in effect, including the Huckleberry Creek and Suntop trails. Road closures include all of FSR 75 and its spurs, FSR 7510, 7530, 7550, 7560, 7300, 7315, and 7320. Additionally, the Lonesome Lake Campground is closed.
