State Highway 42 will remain closed Tuesday Evening. The Door County Highway Department worked tirelessly for hours trying to open up the Highway but due to the amount of snow they needed to break away for the Evening to get some rest.

Please seek alternative routes of travel for STH 42 in Ephraim

03/17/2026

State Highway 42 between Cty A and Cty Q in the Village of Ephraim is Closed. Road is impassable at this time, the Door County Highway Department will be working on it but it may take sometime to open it up.

All Village Roads are being worked on but will take time to get opened up.

We ask everyone to have patience while we deal with this historic winter storm.

STH 42 at Brookside Lane in the Village of Ephriam is closed to traffic. The road is currently impassable and will remain closed until the winds subside.

03/15/2026

Travel is NOT Advised at this time. County Highway and Local Road Crews are working the best they can to maintain the roads.

03/14/2026

Major Winter Storm to affect area beginning this evening and lasting until Monday. Now is the time to get your essential needs, local grocery stores have announced they will be closed Sunday, we encourage you to get your groceries, gas for snowblowers, generators and vehicles, charge cell phones and have other means of light.

Travel most likely will not be advised as we move forward in the Storm, Highway and Local Crews will be working the best they can to keep roads passable, but with the amount of snow predicted it may be difficult.

Tree Damage and Power Outages are likely, if you encounter a Powerline down please report it to Wisconsin Public Service, Do Not Attempt to Move it as it could be energized.

If you have a Generator make sure they are located 10 or more feet away form your residence while it is running, Do not use Grills or ovens to heat your home if Power is out.

We encourage everyone to stay home and not travel unless absolutely necessary during thus event.

It was an Honor to be part of this amazing tribute.

It was an Honor to be part of this amazing tribute.

We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the entire community for your love, support, and caring to the Hecht Family and large family of Public Safety in Door County and beyond over the past 2 weeks. Chief Hecht was truly a blessing to the entire community. His absence will be felt forever, reaching farther than we could ever imagine. Words could never suffice to explain how special Chief Hecht was to so many people.

We would like to acknowledge and thank several Agencies, organizations, and local businesses for their assistance, going above and beyond. We had Public Safety Agencies showing up to show their support and mourn with us, Honor Guard organizations helping us coordinate how we would pay our tributes, Law Enforcement assisting with traffic during the procession, Fire Departments coming from out of the County to provide coverage during the service, and Local Restaurants providing food for a gathering at our station after the service, and so much more. It took a community.

The best thing we can do as we carry forward is to live in a way that Chris Hecht would be proud of and what he knew we are very capable of doing: Door County doing what Door County does best.

Rest Easy, Chief. We'll take it from here.
