WILDFIRE RISK WARNING FROM THE SHERIFF’S EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIVISION: Fire conditions today are higher risk and include a Red Flag Warning and a Wind Advisory. https://bit.ly/4xvwVk3

Grant County’s annual ban on outdoor burning started June 1. Many of the wildfires this year have been associated with careless burning by the public, and the public is being fined for such reckless burning behavior.

Grant County is mostly desert, and there is a lot of fuel to burn. Do your part and respect your neighbors’ property by not burning outdoors.

About GCSO Emergency Management: GCSO’s Emergency Management is the non-police, non-corrections mission of the sheriff’s office. EM focuses on all risks to public safety. EM meets its goals by preparing the community through risk reduction, mitigation, and first responder training, addressing all hazards, both natural and human-caused.

Weather advisory for Thursday for central and eastern Washington communities. Lightning and wind can create large wildfires, hail can damage property, and heavy rain can create localized flooding. Secure property such as lawn chairs, tent canopies, and trampolines so they don't end up flying into power lines.

Each year, the City of Ephrata conducts two cleanups of the Ephrata Cemetery, which it operates on behalf of the community. During these cleanups, we throw away old flowers and decorations that have been placed on gravesites. The purpose is to ensure our residents who have passed are surrounded by a clean and dignified cemetery, and their loved ones can have a serene place to visit them. Our next big cleanup will be conducted on Monday, June 1, 2026. We ask that family members come collect any mementos that should be preserved prior to Monday morning, so those items aren’t discarded that you want kept. Those items the family wants to bring back may be returned to their places Tuesday morning, if families wish to do so. Together, we can ensure our cemetery remains a dignified resting place for those members of our community who have passed.

Work at the Ephrata Sports Complex on new courts, including pickleball, futsal, and other facilities, is moving forward at a rapid pace. We do want to let those living above the worksite know that the crew will be starting early on Monday, June 1, to pour the foundation for the courts, starting at 3 a.m. With the hill in the way, we’re hoping any disturbances will be minimal, but we don’t want anyone surprised. Our partners at Tommer Construction are working hard to build a top-notch facility with minimal disruptions to the facility’s neighbors.
Be safe this weekend!

In the photo below, Tommer employees work on setting up the surface the foundation for the new courts will be poured on.
