Yesterday was a great day. I got a new boss for a day and was able to relax for a couple hours.

We are very grateful to be able to be a part of the annual Chief for a Day celebration. Our new Chief, Miguel got right down to business. He learned how to activate emergency lights and sirens. He was even able to run code through town. Even did some of the dreaded paperwork. Miguel changed our uniform policy - authorizing us to wear black shorts. We appreciate that Chief.

Stay safe.

On scene of the large wildland fire 9000 block of Neppel Road. Fire did cross highway 17. Fire is accidental in nature. It was caused by a vehicle backfire igniting dry grass during land clearing.

It doesn't take much to ignite the dry grass and with the wind blowing 20ish mph it spread fast. Numerous Grant County Fire agencies are involved in the response

Good afternoon.

It's been one week since the annual burn ban has gone into effect. In that time there have been 50 brush/grass/wildland fires in Grant County. FIFTY!! That's an average of over 6 per day.

This one on Rd C and 11 NE was started by an individual grinding on some metal. He started one, put it out and went back to grinding and wouldn't ya know it... he started another one which rapidly spread. He was issued a citation for Reckless Burning 2nd Degree, a gross misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $5000 fine.

Please just stop. It's really dry and our firefighters are tired.
Many thanks to our partners at the Sheriff's Office and BLM Law Enforcement for the assists.

We're happy to be participating in this years Chief for a Day event! Please come out to the courthouse and check out the event and support my new boss for the day!

The 22nd Annual Grant County Chief for a Day will happen on Thursday, June 11, at 11 a.m. on the front lawn of the Grant County Courthouse in Ephrata.

Chief for a Day is about uplifting the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic medical condition. The mission is to provide these children with a day of fun they will never forget and to become a part of their precious lives.

It is the mission of Chief for a Day to help these children and their families forget about their illness, even if only for one day.

On the day of the event, the little chiefs attend a ceremony where they are sworn in as "Chief" for the day. After the swearing-in ceremony, the little chiefs and their families get to experience a day of fun, food, and demonstrations by local public safety agencies.

Join us on June 11 as we continue this tradition of love and support.

Hey! It's June 1st. The Burn Ban is in full effect. Please don't burn things anymore. Doing stuff like this will more than likely result in a citation.

Ok... Everyone huddle up... Important message. STOP BURNING THINGS. I know...I know... you're trying to get it done before the burn ban takes effect on June 1st. But - have you seen how dry it is? In the last 7 days there have been many 'controlled burns' that have gotten out of control. Fire District 5 is going to another one right now.

Please... for the love of Smokey the Bear.... stop.
