BACK TO SCHOOL!

Today, students across the Ephrata Area School District will be heading back to the classroom for the first day of the 2026–2027 school year!

Pioneer Fire Company would like to wish all of our students, teachers, administrators, bus drivers and school staff a safe and successful school year!

For everyone else in the community, today also means a change to our morning and afternoon routines.

Please help us keep our kids safe:

🚌 Watch for school buses and be prepared for frequent stops.

🛑 NEVER pass a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.

🚸 Slow down in school zones and watch carefully at crosswalks and intersections.

👀 Be especially alert for children walking or riding bicycles to school.

🚗 Give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning. A little patience can prevent a tragedy.

There will be a lot of excited kids out there today, some heading off for their very first day of school and some heading off to their last, first day of school. Let’s all do our part to make sure they get there safely.

❤️ THANK YOU, EPHRATA! ❤️

From everyone at Pioneer Fire Company, we want to sincerely thank everyone who came out last night for our Community Movie Night!

We weren't quite sure what to expect when we planned this event, but our community showed up in force! Just under 200 people joined us for an evening of free food, backpacks, and a movie together.

We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support. Seeing so many families, children, friends, and neighbors gathered together at our station is exactly what events like this are all about.

We were also able to give away approximately 80 backpacks with school supplies to children in our community, helping make sure they're ready to start the 2026–2027 school year off on the right foot!

We plan to divide the remaining backpacks and supplies among the schools throughout Ephrata Area School District so they are available during the school year for any student who may need one. Our goal is to make sure children in our community have access to the proper tools and supplies they need to succeed throughout the entire school year, not just on the first day.

To everyone who spent part of their Friday night with us: THANK YOU! Your support of Pioneer and the men and women who volunteer here means more to us than you know.

We are proud to serve this community, and even more grateful to be a part of it.

PROUD MOMENT FOR PIONEER!

The Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company is incredibly proud to announce that our Fire Chief, Abigail Whitehill, has successfully completed and earned her Fire Officer 4 certification!

What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that Chief Whitehill has worked her way through Fire Officer 1, 2, 3, and now 4, all since the beginning of this year! That is an incredible amount of work, studying, training, and dedication in a very short period of time. All on top of working full-time, running incidents and in-house responsibilities.

Achievements like this don't happen by accident. They take countless hours, personal commitment, and a genuine desire to continue learning and becoming a stronger leader.

We are extremely proud of Chief Whitehill's hard work and dedication, not only to the members of Pioneer Fire Company, but to the entire community we are honored to serve.

It’s a busy weekend here in Ephrata! There’s plenty to do this Saturday around town. Come out and support our local first responders! Stop by the fire company for some of our delicious Chicken BBQ, visit the Ephrata Community Ambulance for their Open House, & head over to the Ephrata Police Department for Ice Cream with a Cop!

Come out, have some fun, and see our neighbors this weekend!

🌟We’re proud to spotlight Ben Kopp🌟

Who serves as our Captain and Recording Secretary. He has been involved in the fire service for majority of his life. Ben says the fire service is all he’s ever known, starting as his dad’s shadow when he was just 2 years old. He joined the fire service himself at 16 and has been a member of Ephrata for the past 7 years. What he enjoys most are the lifelong bonds formed with fellow members and, more recently, getting to experience the fire service from a different perspective as Captain. Outside of the firehouse, Ben works in fire protection in Maryland, testing and inspecting fire alarm and sprinkler systems. He’s engaged and has two stepchildren. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, gardening, tackling DIY projects, and watching pretty much any sport that’s on TV. His advice to new members is simple: never stop learning, learn from your mistakes, and never be afraid to ask questions, even if you think they’re “dumb.” Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the grind!
