Erie Firefighters IAFF Local 293 proudly announces the retirement of Assistant Chief 325, Greg Purchase, concluding a remarkable career defined by dedication, leadership, and unwavering service to the citizens of Erie.
Assistant Chief Purchase began his career on May 17, 2004, as part of a hiring class of 19 firefighters. He was first assigned to Tower 2, 4th Platoon, marking the start of a journey that would span over two decades and multiple leadership roles.
Throughout his career, Greg served in several key assignments:
• Engine 13, 4th Platoon, both before and after a brief layoff period
• Engine 8, 3rd Platoon, where he served as driver
• Promotion to Lieutenant in 2020, assigned to Engine 11, 4th Platoon
• Promotion to Captain in May 2023, assigned to Engine 6, 1st Platoon
• Promotion to Assistant Chief 325 in March 2024

In addition to his operational leadership, Greg was a valued member of the EFD CISM Team, providing critical incident stress management and supporting firefighters during some of their most challenging moments.
As he steps into retirement, Greg looks forward to traveling with his wife Addy, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and continuing his passion for helping others through his work as a counselor.
Congratulations, Chief Purchase. Your service, professionalism, and commitment have left a lasting impact on the Erie Fire Department and the community you served. We thank you for your dedication and wish you a long, healthy, and fulfilling retirement.

Erie Firefighters Local 293 would like to congratulate Engine 6 Driver/EMT Aaron Frase on working his final shift with the Erie Fire Department.

Aaron began his career on May 17, 2004, as part of a hiring class of 19 firefighters. Following recruit training, he was assigned to Engine 12 on the 1st Platoon when the company was still located on West 26th Street. He later served on Engine 8, also on the 1st Platoon, before being laid off for 21 months.

Upon returning to the department, Aaron was assigned to Engine 6 on the 4th Platoon. During his layoff, Engine 6 had been relocated to West 26th Street. In 2008, Aaron made his way back to the 1st Platoon, serving on the back of Engine 11. In 2023, he earned a Driver position on Engine 6, where he would finish out his career.

As he begins this next chapter, Aaron looks forward to spending more time with his wife, Kari, and their two children. He also plans to continue working on cars and stay busy with his concrete job.

Thank you, Aaron, for more than 21 years of dedicated service, sacrifice, and commitment to the citizens of Erie. Enjoy your retirement.

Engine 8, 1st Platoon firefighters had a great time visiting four kindergarten classes at Jo Anna Connell today! 🚒

Crews spent the day teaching students about the importance of fire safety, what firefighters do during emergencies, and how to stay safe if a fire occurs. The kids had the opportunity to ask questions, explore the fire truck, and learn more about the equipment our firefighters use.

In addition to the fire truck presentation, crews also demonstrated how firefighters establish a water supply from a fire hydrant during an emergency response. Students got to see firsthand how water is supplied to the fire engine and were excited to watch firefighters operate the master stream from the truck.

The students also got hands-on experience helping firefighters handle the fire hoses and even assist with opening the fire hydrant. Seeing the excitement on their faces while learning about firefighting operations made for a great day for everyone involved.

The fun didn’t stop there - firefighters even got to participate in a class foot race with the students, which brought plenty of laughs and excitement to the visit!

Thank you to the staff and students at Jo Anna Connell for welcoming us into your classrooms today. We always enjoy spending time with the community and helping teach fire safety to the next generation!

- Great job Engine 8 for always going above and beyond.

After seeing EmergyCare post about Harry Latta retiring after 38 years of dedicated service, we happened to stumble across some photos of a Hazmat incident that took place at 15th and Walnut that Harry responded to as part of the Hazmat Team. We’re guessing sometime in the 1990’s…

Congratulations on your retirement, Harry, and thank you for nearly four decades of service to the Erie community. 🚑
