Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night by a doorbell ring—and finding out your child needs a ride home after being contacted by police.

Last night, while officers were investigating an intrusion alarm, they encountered two juveniles riding e-bikes in the roadway near Mitchell Way at approximately 1:30 a.m. The pair had been at a sleepover, got bored, and decided to go for a ride—hanging by a gas station in the early morning hours.

When officers initially attempted to contact them, the juveniles fled. They were eventually located and became cooperative with officers. The interaction provided an opportunity for an important discussion about accountability, decision-making, and the potential consequences of their actions.

One topic officers emphasized was eluding police. When an officer signals you to stop, choosing not to do so can have serious consequences. Depending on the circumstances, eluding can result in criminal charges—including felony charges.

💬 “Actions have consequences.”

The juveniles were wearing helmets and, in the end, received education rather than citations. Parents were contacted and involved in the conversation to help ensure the lessons learned would last longer than the ride itself.

Not every late-night adventure ends with a conversation and a ride home.

Parents: Know where your kids are, who they’re with, and how they’re getting around.

Every summer, we receive calls about fireworks.

While we recommend folks “Leave it to the Pros” (professional shows), we also need to share that unless there’s an actual emergency, please don’t call 911 to report fireworks.

Call 911 if:
🔥 A fire has started or smoke is visible
🏠 A building, vehicle, field, or other property is on fire
👤 Someone is injured
🚨 There is an immediate threat to life or safety
⚠️ Fireworks are causing a dangerous situation right now

Probably NOT a 911 emergency:
🎆 You heard fireworks in the neighborhood
😠 Your neighbor’s fireworks woke up the baby
🐕 Your dog is judging the entire block from the window
🐈 Your cat appears to be operating a small fireworks business

Definitely call 911:
🐈 Your cat is on fire.

We know fireworks can be frustrating, but emergency lines need to stay open for situations where police, fire, or EMS are needed immediately.

Help us help Erie: Save 911 for emergencies, and ditch the personal fireworks - Leave it to the professionals.

Pro Tip:
Non-emergencies can be reported to Erie Police via Boulder County dispatchers by calling 303-441-4444. Save this number to your contacts!

A bat. A bomb threat. A spooky TikTok. A stolen vehicle suspect. And a dog that was definitely okay.

Yep. We’re back.

The Erie Police Weekend Recap returns with some of the most unusual—and important—calls from around town.

Some were serious. Some were strange. And several were not what they first appeared to be.

Watch to the end. Trust us on this one. 👀

Yes, we know. Police. Donuts. The jokes practically write themselves.

But before everyone starts cracking wise, let's talk about the crew making sure our cruisers don't end up parked on the side of the road with a flat and a sad story.

Our Fleet Department keeps these vehicles looking sharp, running strong, and ready for whatever the day throws at us. While everyone else is enjoying donuts, our fleet team is busy making sure our wheels aren't turning into them.

To our Fleet Department: thanks for keeping our rides fresh, our downtime low, and our officers from having to explain why they're stranded on the shoulder.

Stay glazed. Stay rolling. Don't get jelly.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Salcedo and Officer Cash, who were recently honored with the Lifesaving Medal for their quick thinking, teamwork, and decisive actions that saved a life.

On December 6, 2025, Officers Salcedo and Cash responded to a reported overdose involving an unconscious woman who was not breathing and had no pulse. Upon arrival, Officer Salcedo immediately administered Narcan and began CPR.

Moments later, Officer Cash arrived with an AED and took over chest compressions while Officer Salcedo administered an additional dose of Narcan and prepared the AED to assist with resuscitation efforts.

Working together under intense pressure, their immediate and coordinated response resulted in the victim being successfully revived. Their actions exemplify the highest standards of public service and demonstrate the critical impact that training, teamwork, and decisive action can have during a life-threatening emergency.

On February 15, 2026, officers were investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash after already spending several hours working a separate fatal crash earlier that same day.

Recognizing the demands being placed on his team, Officer Bastres voluntarily came in to assist, despite being off duty and having already responded to the earlier incident.

His willingness to step forward during a challenging and demanding day exemplifies the teamwork, dependability, and selfless service that are essential to our profession.

Officer Bastres' actions demonstrated an unwavering commitment to both his fellow officers and the community they serve.

Please join us in congratulating Officer DeVito, who was recently honored with the Distinguished Service Cross for his extraordinary courage and selfless actions in the line of duty.

On February 15, 2026, Officer DeVito was among the first officers to respond to a serious crash on Erie Parkway.

Upon arrival, he encountered a vehicle engulfed in flames with occupants still inside. Without hesitation and despite the immediate danger to his own safety, Officer DeVito rushed to the vehicle, worked to gain access, and successfully removed the driver from the burning car. He then helped carry the driver to safety and immediately began lifesaving efforts.

Although the victim ultimately succumbed to their injuries, Officer DeVito's actions demonstrated exceptional bravery, determination, and commitment to serving others under the most challenging circumstances. His willingness to place himself in harm's way to help a stranger reflects the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession.

We are proud to recognize Officer DeVito for his heroism and dedication to protecting our community.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

Who remembers getting rewarded for doing the right thing?

We believe great choices deserve recognition, and there's nothing better than seeing a child's smile after being rewarded for doing something positive.

This summer, Erie Police officers are bringing back Operation Chill with our friends at 7-ELEVEN.

Our officers will be carrying special coupons for FREE Small Slurpees to hand out to kids who are:
🚲 Wearing helmets
🗑️ Helping keep Erie clean
🤝 Showing kindness
🚸 Following safety rules
⭐ Being positive role models

Sometimes a small reward can create a big memory. More importantly, it creates opportunities for positive interactions between officers and the young people who make Erie such a great community.

So if you see an officer this summer, don't be surprised if they're looking for reasons to reward great behavior.

💙 Tag a parent who needs to tell their kids about Operation Chill!

Officer Buboltz understood the assignment:
🛟 “WILSONNNN!” …except, Wilson, the shop dog was perfectly safe. 😄

After car keys went full Cast Away and disappeared into a rain gutter, Officer Buboltz was dispatched and quickly engineered a homemade magnet rescue mission and reeled them back in like a pro.

Considering the key’s human lives north of Loveland, losing them would’ve been more than just a “minor inconvenience.” Thankfully, no volleyballs, dogs, keys, or humans — were stranded in this rescue.

FOUND Safe
——————————

The Erie Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing 15-year-old.

Ethan Fisher was last seen on May 25, 2026, at approximately 2:42 p.m. near WCR 7 & WCR 12 in Erie, Colorado. He left his residence shortly before this time and was reportedly going fishing at Thomas Reservoir.

Ethan is described as approximately 6’0” tall, 210 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing baggy jeans, a baggy black t-shirt, a green and white baseball hat, black and pink shoes, and a silver bracelet with a turquoise stone. Ethan was riding a purple and black mountain bike and may have been carrying a backpack containing fishing gear.

Ethan reportedly made comments about going to the mountains and attempting to live in the wild on his own. At this time, there is no information suggesting foul play, and Ethan is not believed to be in immediate danger. Officers are actively working to locate him and ensure his safe return home.

We understand the community may have questions, and we want to clarify:
• There is no known threat to the public.
• Officers are continuing to follow up on leads and reported sightings.
• We ask the public to avoid speculation on social media, as inaccurate information can interfere with the investigation and Ethan’s safe return.

If you have information regarding Ethan’s whereabouts, please contact the Erie Police Department at 303-441-4444. If you see Ethan in real time, please call 911 immediately.
