The Wednesday Club was pleased to welcome Karen Cummings-Wedding of Resilient Clinical Counseling as our featured presenter.
Karen began her therapeutic career specializing in blindness and vision loss after recognizing, through her own personal experiences, a significant gap in services and support for individuals facing these challenges.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Karen shared that her vision journey began at just two days old when she underwent emergency cataract removal surgery and was diagnosed with glaucoma. Throughout her life, she has experienced both remarkable successes and significant setbacks. Knowing that she must always be prepared for the possibility of total vision loss, Karen has developed a deep commitment to resilience and maintaining a positive outlook.
Her passion for helping others inspires individuals to believe that anything is possible when overcoming adversity, leading to a fulfilling and meaningful life.
During her presentation, Karen discussed topics including Worden's Stages of Loss, cognitive reframing, and the importance of finding safe and supportive people who see you for who you are, rather than focusing on your visual impairment.
Drawing from her personal experiences, professional expertise, and educational background, Karen delivered an authentic and impactful presentation. Her honest advice, thoughtful insights, and inspiring perspective resonated deeply with attendees, leaving us with a greater understanding of resilience, self-acceptance, and the power of human connection.
