Let's Keep the 'Spark' in the Celebration, Not the Emergency Room! 🎆

As Erie Township prepares for the 4th of July, the Fire Department wants to ensure everyone has a fantastic and safe holiday. The best way to prevent fires and injuries is to attend a professional public display.
However, if you choose to use consumer fireworks where permitted, please follow these essential safety tips. Let’s make this Independence Day memorable for the right reasons!

🔥 DO:
Always have a sober adult in charge.

Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.

Only light fireworks outdoors on a flat, non-flammable surface.
Wear safety glasses.

🚫 DON'T:

Never allow children to handle fireworks, including sparklers. (Sparklers burn hot enough to melt glass!)

Never try to re-light a "dud." Wait 20 minutes and soak it.

Never throw or point fireworks at people, animals, or structures.

Never use illegal explosives.

Remember, safety is no accident. From our family to yours, have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Today, our town is hosting the annual Race for the Kids, and our departments and police department will be blocking off roads in Erie from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, encompassing all of downtown and side streets. We kindly request that you avoid this area during this time. This year's event promises to be the largest yet. Individuals who are not registered are still welcome to attend and support the cause, with activities including silent auctions and gift baskets. We extend our sincerest gratitude to the team that organizes this event and to our community supporters. Hope to see you running by or after at St. Joseph school gymnasium.
