A win is a win, no matter the margin - and this is excellent news, especially considering how absolutely brazenly partisan the new map is. Virginia is a light blue state with a purple streak, lots of old school GOP’ers and right-leaning independents who are very anti-MAGA and will vote against candidates that align with that movement, but do not want to be gerrymandered. The fact that this map that takes the delegation from 6D / 5R to 10D / 1 R passed on a popular vote is astounding.
Congratulations .louiselucas and VA Dems on a triumph.
It’s also a reminder. The GOP in VA got blown out last year and just a few months into the new term, Democrats are burning political capital like crazy to meet the moment. They are doing their jobs, they are fighting back. It means NOTHING if voters check out. This resolution was not a blowout; it could have failed. Lots of people on the D side stayed home.
Democracy and fighting back against a Fascist is not a spectator sport. Democrats must show up in EVERY SINGLE ELECTION and vote.
