The first day of school can come with a lot of nerves, but a cheering crowd at the front door makes it feel a little less scary.

Yesterday, students at Iroquois Elementary, a United Way Community School, were welcomed back by Women United volunteers, Widget Financial, Iroquois’ Corporate Partner, and Erie County, Pennsylvania District Attorney Beth Hirz.

A few cheers, big smiles and some friendly faces to start the year off right. Because sometimes, a warm welcome can make all the difference.

Today, we remember Dolly Parton and the incredible legacy she leaves through her commitment to early literacy.

For more than a decade, United Way of Erie County has been proud to fund Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library right here in Erie County.

More than 1 million books mailed. 25,000+ children graduated.

We’re grateful to have played a part in bringing her love of books to children across our community. Her legacy will live on with every book opened and every story shared.

Today was the first day of school! 🎒

But for some of Pfeiffer-Burleigh Elementary , a United Way Community School's newest kindergarteners, they already knew their way around.

Kindergarten Readiness Workshops gave students and their families a chance to spend time in the school before the first day, meet some familiar faces and get a feel for what kindergarten would actually be like.

A huge thank you to the partners who were part of these workshops and helped make them special, including the expERIEnce Children's Museum featured in this Reel!
