HCDP dropped off donations of 184 drinks and 713 individual snacks to principal Jessica Lyle at Erin Elementary for the summer school students. Each quarter as part of our Democrats Care program HCDP partners with a local organization to help our community. Thank you to all Dems who donated!

In a move to gerrymander Tennessee voters into an all Republican congressional delegation, the Republican super majority in the state house has put Houston County in a district with a chunk of Memphis. The Rs are catering to Trump’s call to rig the districts for the mid term elections because he knows the economy and his war with Iran are sinking his poll numbers. Don’t like the map? Tomorrow is primary Election Day across our state. Voters in Houston County should know there are no candidates who chose to run as Democrats on the ballot. Is this disappointing? Absolutely! Does this call into question the use of primaries for county elections? Of course. HCDP was ready and willing to certify local candidates, but none stepped up prior to the deadline. We appreciate the work of the volunteers and the Election Commission and look forward to seeing a full slate of candidates in the August election.

The inaugural HCDP Jackie Largent Smith Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Charlsie Strech who is attending UT working toward a pharmacy degree. We congratulate Charlsie and encourage the other applicants to apply again next year.
