On Friday, the 22nd of August, with the assistance of a specialized aviation unit from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a grid search was conducted in the area of Jerison Hankins' residence. Two thermal heat signatures were detected towards the eastern end of Mobley Lane. Houston County Deputies on foot were directed to the heat signatures by the aviation team. Unfortunately, both heat signatures belonged to deer. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office continues to follow up on any tips and leads provided to us, and we appreciate all the assistance we’ve received from the community. We will continue to use all the resources available to us, both physical and digital. We would like to thank all the outside agencies that have offered their support and assistance. We hope and pray that with continued support; Jerison will be found safely.

One week into May and its looking to be a busy month. On Friday May 2nd alone, four individuals were arrested by the Sheriff’s Office for the following: Two charges of driving on a revoked license, three charges for drug possession, one charge for drug paraphernalia, one charge for public intoxication. There was one citation in lieu of arrest issued for driving on a suspended driver’s license. Early May 3rd a call came out for a tree down on Rocky Hollow Rd. The tree had landed on a residence and dislodged some power lines. A resident came in contact with a live wire. Officer Tiebor and Deputy Denton were the first responders on scene. The patient was extracted from the wires, and transported to Horizon Medical in Dickson and it was reported the next day that she was recovering. Our prayers wish her a speedy recovery. We would also like to thank local Fire and EMS services for their response to the incident. May 7th, an individual was arrested for being in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. Also taken into custody this month were two individuals on Child Support Purge charges, one individual sentenced to serve in the county jail, and one individual booked on the charge of Contraband in a Penal Facility. Interviews continue on the investigation into the threat at the High School. The laptop the threat was issued from has been turned over to the Secret Service for further analysis. Due to family issues in another state; the Sheriff’s Office will be losing a Patrol Deputy this month. Due to circumstances outside of our control, one of the School Resource Officers is currently unavailable to report for duty.

On 04/24/2025, Deputy Kizer and Deputy Norman with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office visited the children at the Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency Houston Head Start. All the children in attendance received books and “Beenie Babies” from the Deputies. The deputies explained what equipment they were required to carry, and the children were given an opportunity to operate the patrol unit’s emergency equipment, “lights and sirens.” At the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, we believe it is important to foster positive relationships between the Patrol Deputies and the children and people of the community. If you are hosting a community event, feel free to reach out to the Sheriff’s Office if you’d like Law Enforcement to participate. Please note that our availability is dependent upon call volume, and we may not be able to make every engagement. Pictured is Deputy Kizer receiving a poster of appreciation from Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency Houston Head Start.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee State Troopers, and the Department of Homeland Security responded. The school was searched prior to the arrival students, there were no threats detected, and no further threats were issued. Houston County Sheriff’s Office Investigations was able to track down the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses associated with the email account that issued the threat. The IP address information was turned over to the Department of Homeland Security who executed a search warrant for the account’s subscriber information. Upon the return of the search warrant a suspect was discovered who admitted to issuing the threat. That individual was charged with Threats of Mass Violence at School.

On 04/16/2025, a bomb threat was issued by electronic means at the Houston County High School. Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Erin Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, The Tennessee State Troopers, and the Department of Homeland Security responded. The students were evacuated from the school, until Law Enforcement could be certain that the building was safe. During the search of the High School there was evidence found that suggested the threat may have been credible, which created the necessity to restrict access to cellular devices. The TN State Trooper’s bomb squad was able determine that there was no explosive device at the High School. Through continued investigation into the incident, the device which the threat had been issued from has been located, the time the threat was issued, the location of the device at the time the threat was issued and who was in classroom with the device at that time. That device has been turned over to the Department of Homeland Security to be forensically analyzed. The Sheriff’s Office wants to thank the parents for their patience, and cooperation with the investigation. Interviews are in the process of being conducted with the students who had access to the device at the time the threat was issued. Anyone with information pertaining to the issuance of the threat is encouraged to contact Law Enforcement.

The Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank all the departments who have come to assist in Emergency Situations; Erin Police Department, Tennessee State Troopers, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security
