NOTICE OF DETOUR - FISHING CREEK RD (CR 639) RESURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

Lower Township - Beginning on June 1, 2026, the County will be conducting roadway improvements to Fishing Creek Road (CR639) in Lower Township. The limits of the project are from Tabernacle Road (CR 647) to Shunpike Road (CR 644). The roadway improvements include milling the roadway and surface course paving. Active construction spans from Tabernacle Road to Shunpike Road, causing rolling daytime detours. Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution when driving over freshly paved sections. This construction will continue until the project is complete. Local traffic will be maintained, and residents will always have access to their homes.

Detour Route: Due to narrow paving widths, traffic is detoured during active construction. Specifically, traffic will be detoured at Fishing Creek and Tabernacle Roads as well as Fishing Creek and Shunpike Roads, see the below map. Traffic approaching Shunpike Road is detoured north via Seashore Road to Tabernacle Road, then directed west back to Fishing Creek Road. Southbound traffic is detoured east onto Tabernacle Road to Seashore Road.

Schedule: Normal traffic patterns typically resume at night and on weekends, though a 2" (inch) drop-off may exist between the new and existing pavements.

Today’s L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) Day, hosted by the Lower Township Police Department at the NASW Museum, gave 6th graders from Sandman Consolidated School the opportunity to connect with local first responders, learn about important community resources, and reinforce the importance of making good choices.

Students watched an exciting TASER demonstration and a K-9 presentation featuring three Cape May County Sheriff's Office K-9s and the important roles they perform in law enforcement.

Afterward, students broke into groups led by dedicated 7th Grade Peer Leaders and rotated through interactive stations hosted by:
Lower Township Detective Division
AtlantiCare EMS
Cape May County SWAT Team
Cape May County Prosecutor's Office
Villas Volunteer Fire Department
Erma Fire Department
Lower Township Fire Safety
ARRIVE Team from Acenda Integrated Health
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum

Lunch and refreshments were generously provided by our amazing community partners:
🍕 Pizza from Domino's Villas/Cape May in the Villas
🥪 Hoagies from Lower Twp. Elementary School District
🍧 Water Ice from Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard
🧃 Waters and Capri Suns from ACME in North Cape May

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day such a success and for providing our students with valuable experiences and positive connections within our community!
