Congratulations to Firefighter Alex Green on graduating from the Northeast Tennessee Regional Fire Training Association Rookie School last night!

Over the past 11 weeks, Alex has shown tremendous hard work, dedication, and commitment in completing this challenging academy. This is a significant accomplishment, and we are incredibly proud of all he has achieved as he begins his fire service career.

Please join us in congratulating Alex on this outstanding milestone. We look forward to watching him continue to serve and grow as a member of the Erwin Fire Department and our community.

Thanks to a grant from the Gary Sinise Foundation, the Town of Erwin Fire Department received a new Polaris UTV - giving crews the ability to respond to fires and medical emergencies in areas that can’t be reached by a fire truck or ambulance.

After Hurricane Helene placed a significant financial burden on the town, this support made all the difference. As Fire Chief Jason Harris shared, without this grant, the department would not have been able to purchase this critical equipment to better serve and protect their community.

On Sunday night, February 1, at approximately 10:15 p.m., the Erwin Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire on Levelin Street. Initial reports indicated fire showing from the roof.

Firefighters arrived on scene in under four minutes and found active fire coming through the eaves and roof of the home. Crews quickly went to work and were able to bring the fire under control.

Although the main living areas of the home sustained minimal fire damage, there was significant smoke and water damage due to the attic being more than 50% involved upon arrival.

Two residents were displaced as a result of the fire. The Erwin Fire Department is thankful for the quick response of our crews and assistance from other emergency service agencies. We also want to remind everyone to ensure working smoke alarms are installed in their homes.

The Town of Erwin Fire Department will continue to respond to all emergency calls within the city limits. Our department is equipped with four 4x4 pickup trucks, a side-by-side utility vehicle, and fire apparatus outfitted with tire chains to ensure reliable response during adverse conditions. These resources allow us to safely and effectively respond to fire incidents and emergency situations throughout the city limits, regardless of weather or terrain. Please stay warm and be safe!
