Today, our B Shift crew spent time polishing and waxing Engine 9. Taking care of our apparatus is an important part of protecting the investment our town has made in the Erwin Fire Department.

Regular polishing and waxing help protect the paint and finish from the elements, reduce long-term wear, and keep Engine 9 looking its best. More importantly, it helps ensure this truck will continue serving the citizens of Erwin reliably for many years to come.

All of our fire apparatus are routinely washed and waxed as part of our preventive maintenance program. Keeping our fleet clean not only presents a professional appearance but also helps preserve each truck so it can continue serving the citizens of Erwin for years to come.

Thank you to our B Shift personnel for their hard work, pride, and dedication to maintaining the equipment that helps keep our community safe.

The Town of Erwin Fire Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to Beacon Rescue for coming to Erwin and providing outstanding training on low-angle rope rescue operations. Our members gained valuable hands-on experience and practical skills that will help us better serve our community when called upon.

A special thank you goes to instructor John Witherspoon (“Spoon”), a retired U.S. Special Forces veteran, for sharing his knowledge, experience, and passion for the fire service. We truly appreciate the time and effort you invested in our department and the expertise you brought to this training.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Beacon Rescue for their generous donation of additional rope rescue equipment. Their continued support helps strengthen our rescue capabilities and better equips our personnel to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

We’re excited to continue building our rope rescue capabilities and are already planning to host a High-Angle Rope Rescue class with Beacon Rescue this fall. We look forward to working together again!

And yes… we were so busy training that we forgot to take more pictures! 😂 Sometimes that’s a good sign that everyone was focused on learning and getting the most out of the day.

The Town of Erwin Fire Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Valerie Bradley, the Town of Erwin’s Communications Director, for her hard work and dedication in helping us apply for this grant.

Valerie has been an incredible asset to our department, providing invaluable assistance with grant applications and consistently supporting the Erwin Fire Department. Her commitment, professionalism, and willingness to help have played an important role in helping us pursue funding for much-needed equipment and resources.

We are truly grateful for everything Valerie does for our department and our community. Thank you for your continued support!

Earlier today at approximately 4:41 am the Town of Erwin Fire Department responded to a report of smoke inside a residence. Crews arrived on scene in just over four minutes and found a light smoke condition throughout the home.

Using a thermal imaging camera, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the interior but were unable to immediately locate the source. Knowing that smoke doesn’t appear without a cause, crews continued their investigation.

Beneath the home was a crawl space measuring only about 20 inches high. Two firefighters made entry and crawled approximately 20 feet under the house, where they discovered an exposed electrical wire that had arced, igniting a floor joist and allowing the fire to begin spreading.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and completed a comprehensive search of the entire crawl space to ensure there were no additional hidden hot spots.

This incident is a great reminder that just because the smoke has cleared doesn’t mean something isn’t still burning. Thoroughness, training, and determination are what allow us to find hidden fires before they become much larger emergencies.

We are grateful this fire was discovered early, preventing what could have been a much more serious incident. If you ever notice unexplained smoke or the smell of something burning, don’t ignore it—call 911 immediately.

We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and memorable Independence Day celebrating with family and friends.

As you enjoy the festivities, please keep a safe distance from fireworks being shot, have water nearby, and always watch children closely. Remember shooting Fireworks is illegal in the Erwin Town Limits.

At approximately 9:37 this morning, Erwin Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident in which a car left the roadway and entered the river.

Upon arrival, members of the Erwin Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team immediately made entry into the river and successfully rescued the occupant from the vehicle. The patient was safely brought to shore and transferred to EMS personnel for evaluation and treatment.

The Erwin Fire Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Erwin Police Department, Unicoi County EMS, and Unicoi County EMA/SAR for their assistance during this morning’s river rescue incident.

Although the rainfall has alleviated some drought conditions, we remain in a state of severe drought. Residents in county areas are advised to exercise caution when burning, while those within city limits must obtain a burn permit by contacting the Town of Erwin Fire Department. It's worth noting that burn permits are mandatory year-round within the Erwin city limits, whereas in county areas, they become required starting October 15th.

Congratulations to Firefighter Alex Green on graduating from the Northeast Tennessee Regional Fire Training Association Rookie School last night!

Over the past 11 weeks, Alex has shown tremendous hard work, dedication, and commitment in completing this challenging academy. This is a significant accomplishment, and we are incredibly proud of all he has achieved as he begins his fire service career.

Please join us in congratulating Alex on this outstanding milestone. We look forward to watching him continue to serve and grow as a member of the Erwin Fire Department and our community.
