Items needed for some teens.

Before you get up in arms about them asking for name brand stuff, being a teen nowadays is not easy let alone being a teenager who finds themselves in foster care with very minimal items.

They just want to fit in, FEEL like they fit in, and just feel good about themselves.

“How do you let them go?”

That’s the question I hear the most.
And I get it. It’s a fair question.
Because yes, it hurts. It hurts deep.

I’ve cried on bathroom floors.
I’ve packed diaper bags with shaking hands.
I’ve kissed little foreheads goodbye not knowing if I’ll ever see them again.
I’ve buckled children into car seats for the last time while my heart broke wide open.

And still, I do it again.
And again.
And again.

Because it’s not about me.
It’s about them.
Their safety. Their future. Their healing.

If the cost of them being safe
being seen
being loved
is me grieving,
then I’ll grieve.

Because love doesn’t hold on out of fear.
It makes room.
Even when it hurts.

So yes, letting go is hard.
But what’s harder
is knowing a child stayed in a place that wasn’t safe
because no one said yes.

So I say yes.
Even when I know goodbye is coming.
Even when I know it will wreck me.
Because I’d rather carry the grief
than let a child carry the weight of being unwanted.

And I’ll keep doing it.
Until every child has the safety and love they deserve.
Even if I’m left with empty arms.
