Reliable transportation is one of the biggest barriers to employment in Delta County — and for many people, it’s the difference between being able to work or not. Expanding DATA’s countywide transit service would be a game changer for employers like Lakestate Industries and for the individuals we support every day.

Right now, thousands of residents in seven townships have no access to public transit. This proposal would expand service countywide, add early morning, evening, and weekend hours, and help connect people to jobs, medical care, education, and everyday life. More than half of DATA riders are working-age adults, and expanded transportation means more people can reliably get to work and stay employed.

For a home with a taxable value of $100,000, the estimated cost is about $5.75 per month — a small investment that could generate over $1.1 million locally while also unlocking additional state and federal funding.

Transportation is not just about getting from one place to another. It creates opportunity, independence, and access. Supporting expanded DATA service means supporting our workforce, our seniors, our veterans, people with disabilities, and the future of Delta County.

Behind the scenes at Lakestate Industries’ woodshop.

Our team is cutting boards for pallet stock that go out to partners like Fox Valley Wood Products and Pufahl.

On average, 16 individuals are working and building job skills here every day; and together, they produce a semi-truck load of boards or more, Monday through Friday.

This is more than production. This is opportunity, skill-building, and purpose.

What an incredible day at the Special Olympics!

It was amazing to see so many individuals from Lakestate Industries participating and supporting such a powerful event. The energy, encouragement, and pure joy from the athletes made it a truly unforgettable experience.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities, helping athletes build confidence, friendships, and pride in their accomplishments.

I’m proud to be part of a community that shows up, supports one another, and celebrates these athletes and everything they achieve.

Great job to everyone who participated and helped make the day so fantastic!
