Critical fire weather conditions are forecast this afternoon for Deep South Texas. Here are some tips to help prevent a wildfire: Secure any tow chains so they aren't near the ground; sparks from tow chains along the pavement could ignite a wildfire in roadside grasses. Avoid parking in tall grasses as the hot underside of the car could also cause a fire to start.

Starr County Judge Eloy Vera and the Commissioners’ Court ask for residents to read the following burn ban adopted by the Commissioners’ Court. The ban is an initiative to keep all Starr County residents safe. We have had several fires which have resulted in homes, cars and other property lost. Rural areas of Starr County are very vulnerable at this time and any type of fire can create extensive fire damage. We encourage everyone to be very vigilant of their surroundings to ensure residents’ safety during our current severe drought conditions.
