Please see notice about W**d Road and avoid the area during construction.

The Town of Essex has contracted with S.D. Ireland Construction to pave W**d Road in the Town of Essex. Paving operations are expected to take up to three days and are scheduled to commence on August 18, 2026. (This date is weather dependent.)
Traffic will be flagger controlled and limited to a single lane. Please expect significant delays and use an alternate route if possible.

Early morning work in the City.

At 3:44am on August 4th, Essex Junction Fire was dispatched for a working fire at 20 Orchard Terrace, City of Essex Junction. Tonight, instead of a structured training we had some fun with our mutual aid partners from Essex Junction Fire Department via a little friendly competition. Tonight we played a muster game called Midnight Alarm. Two teams of 5 start out lying on the ground, at the whistle they jump up, throw on their gear, race to two connection points and to the nozzle. Once the connections are made the firefighter at the first connection charges the line and runs to the rest of his team at the nozzle. Once the team is all together they open the nozzle to knock down a target 🎯 While yes, this was fun and games, it also had training benefits. See some videos of the action in the comments below 👇🏼

Another Monday night, another training. Tonight’s training was a little different than usual as we were joined by some of our mutual aid partners: Essex Junction Fire Department, Underhill Jericho Fire Department, and Colchester Fire Department. Tonight’s training focused on off site fills for when we are fighting fires in areas that do not have a hydrant system (or a system that is not working). This is often known as a tanker task force. The water is then transported to the scene where it is emptied into portable ponds. From there the supply engine can draft water to supply our hose lines. Essex Jct Fire also brought over their ladder 3 to give us some training and experience on the ladder. Thank you so much to our mutual aid partners, we appreciate you!
