Tell Your Own Story: A Poetry Writing Workshop with J Brooke
Wednesday, Sep. 16, 5:30 PM
Register: https://ow.ly/sem250ZB25w

Join USA Today Bestselling author and poet J Brooke for a unique poetry writing workshop at Essex Library Association. Brooke’s debut poetry collection “I can Tell You the Version That Will Make You Take My Side” was published in June 2026 to widespread acclaim, and is considered “poetry that’s extremely accessible even for those who don’t read poetry.” Bring your copy of the book to the workshop and Brooke will personally inscribe it for you.

Whether you’ve ever written or read poetry, come and enjoy a series of fun (sometimes funny) writing exercises to discover your inner poet. Each participant will leave with a working draft of a poem they wrote.

This program is free and open to the public at Essex Library Association, 33 West Avenue, Essex, CT. Registration is required.

This month: Summer’s not over just yet! Bring your little one to create a beach sand handprint keepsake. All supplies will be provided, but if you took a trip to the beach this year and would like to add any personal shells you found, bring them along! We’ll make the handprint at the library, and then caregivers can take them home to bake them in the oven to harden (instructions provided).

No registration, drop in!
🤚👁️👃👂❤️🤚👁️👃👂❤️
In the Fall, Sensory Playtime is moving to once a month, to make room for even more awesome programs for our youngest patrons (stay tuned for more information about those! 😉)

Join us for a hands-on, child-led play session designed to engage the senses! Sensory Playtime encourages exploration, creativity, and early learning through touch, sound, and movement. Kids are invited to move from station to station, at their own pace, to scoop, squish, pour, and play with a variety of textures and materials in a safe, supportive space alongside their caregivers. This program supports sensory development, fine motor skills, and social interaction—come play, learn, and make a (little) mess with us!

Program funded in part by the Community Foundation of Middlesex County and made possible by the GSB Grant Making Fund, and the Whelen Family Fund.
