The Estherville Fire Department hosted a vehicle fire training this week.

Firefighter worked on their techniques of how to approach a vehicle safely with fire attacking and how to work as team to open compartments in the vehicle that are fire involved.

What an incredible weekend! The Estherville Firefighter Association would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, sponsored, and came out to support our events during the 2026 Sweet Corn Days.

16th Annual Firefighter Waterfights
We had an amazing turnout with 25 firefighters and 7 spouses competing in this year’s event. Congratulations to our champions! Winner Photo will be posted shortly.

4th Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament
Another fantastic year with 16 teams battling it out in the mud!

The Mud Volleyball crews were out early putting in the kind of work most people never see. Before anyone can dive into the fun, these folks spend hours clearing out rocks, smoothing the courts, and making sure everything is safe for the teams. It’s messy, heavy, and far from glamorous, but they tackle it with grit and a good attitude.

Huge appreciation to everyone who shows up year after year to make this tournament possible. Your hard work is the reason the community gets to enjoy one of the best parts of Sweet Corn Days.

We will all see you Saturday!!!!

This week, the Estherville Fire Department dedicated time to training on pumping operations, relay pumping, drafting, and water management. Our firefighters also trained for catastrophic equipment failures, ensuring we’re prepared to continue protecting our community even when unexpected challenges arise.

Firefighting requires continuous learning and training. After earning Firefighter I and Hazmat Operations certifications, firefighters are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education each year, along with an additional 8 hours of hazardous materials training annually.

Training never stops because preparedness saves lives. We are proud of the commitment our firefighters make to continually improve their skills and serve the Estherville community.

The Estherville Fire Department wants to thank The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa and the board for awarding us $10,000.

With these funds, we will be purchasing radios to allow us to be able to communicate with our partners across county and state lines in the event that Mutual Aid is requested.

✔️ Fire Department Bragging Rights – Calling all area fire departments! Bring a team and compete for community bragging rights.

No matter your skill level, everyone ends up covered in mud and smiling by the end of the day. That's what makes Mud Volleyball such a great tradition!

Saturday, August 1, Registration: 3:00 PM, Games Begin: 4:00 PM

Spectators are welcome, so bring a lawn chair, enjoy the food stand, and cheer on the teams!
