Welcome our new Chief!
Tonight, Etna gains a new Fire Chief and it’s someone who has been serving our communities since he was 17 years old!
Jake Deegan started his fire career as a volunteer explorer in Gazelle, stepped into Montague Fire on December 8, 2015 at just 18, and never slowed down. After a year and a half as a sleeper, he officially became a Montague Fire member in the summer of 2016, worked for the Oregon Department of Forestry, then worked for USFS before graduating the fire academy in 2017, rose to Captain in 2018, and continued to lead with dedication and heart while also working for CAL FIRE. Jake joined Grenada Fire in 2024 prior to his relocation to Etna, California.
In May 2025, Jake brought that same commitment to Etna Fire, stepping in as Captain… and tonight, he earns the title of Fire Chief.
Please help me congratulate Chief Deegan, a true example of what hard work, service, and community pride look like in Siskiyou County. 👨🚒🔥
Here’s to the next chapter, Chief!
