Etoile Volunteer Fire Department would like to let the Etoile community know that the department has once again been certified as a First Responder Organization (FRO) by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Every two years, EVFD is required to complete the FRO certification process. This includes providing a roster of certified emergency responders within the department. We are fortunate to currently have four Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), one Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and one Advanced EMT.

The certification process also requires information about our response area, copies of our Emergency Response Protocols, and documentation of our medical sponsorship through Nacogdoches County EMS.

A special shoutout goes to our Medical Officer, Denise Randell. Denise took on the job of navigating the state bureaucracy and website, sometimes reaching dead ends, but always finding another way forward. Thanks to her persistence, the paperwork was completed and our certification renewed before our current FRO certificate expired at the end of August.

Thank you, Denise, for putting in the time and effort behind the scenes to keep EVFD certified and ready to provide emergency medical response to our community.

As you all have seen, the EVFD has been hired to cook the meat for the Etoile Macedonia Church.
Usually around this time of year, we would be hosting a community appreciation luncheon.
I’m here to let you know that the luncheon has been canceled.
Or rather SWAPPED, everyone is invited to the Macedonia event.
There will be enough food to feed a literal army 🤪
It will be held at the church on September 27th.
At 10:30 they will begin with a history of their church.
Lunch will be afterwards.
We really hope to see you there ♥️

Tonight’s training at the EVFD… they played LOTS of fire safety videos.
They were very informative.
Afterward, the firefighters that attended Saturday nights fire discussed what was good, and what could have been differently.
Then AFTER all that was said and done, they went out, undid the hoses on the trucks and re-rolled them up correctly ❤️
All in all, it was a great evening.

The Etoile community is amazing, and the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department sincerely appreciates everyone being watchful and reporting fires or smoke in the area. We certainly do not want to discourage anyone from calling when they see something that concerns them.

Regarding last night’s fire in the area of 19400 FM 226, we wanted to provide an update.

The Texas A&M Forest Service used a bulldozer to establish an approximately 8-foot-wide firebreak around the burned area. With that barrier in place, remaining material inside the perimeter can safely continue to burn and smolder. Because of this, you may see smoke and occasional hot spots in the area over the next few days.

Since last night, we have received three 911 calls reporting smoke in that area. We appreciate those calls and would much rather have someone report something they are concerned about than ignore it. For each call, we dispatched a crew to check out the area.

EVFD is continuing to keep an eye on the area, and so far everything is working as designed. The fire is contained within the established perimeter, but smoke and hot spots may remain visible for several days.

I know when we see something like a fire on the side of the road, heading straight into the woods, it can cause us to panic.
The first thing you should do is call 911, not your mom, your best friend, OR someone you know on the fire department.
Those calls are wasting valuable minutes.
I also know you want to do everything and anything to HELP out the department, but leave the directing of traffic and alerting the public to the actual EVFD.
I promise, I am not picking on anyone, this post is being made with the best of intentions and love ♥️

On Saturday, August 15, at approximately 10:15 PM, the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire near 19400 FM 226.

Arriving units found a grass fire approximately 40 yards long along the east side of FM 226. The fire had spread into the woods, with several tree canopies burning. EVFD personnel staged apparatus along FM 226 and began attacking the fire from both the north and south flanks.

Due to the fire’s spread into the wooded area, the Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to assist.

EVFD firefighters worked their way through the woods and were able to extinguish the leading edge of the fire and bring most of the incident under control. While crews were continuing mop-up operations, a portion of the north flank reignited. Personnel were working to contain that area when the Texas A&M Forest Service arrived with additional equipment.

The Texas A&M Forest Service then assumed command of the incident. Forest Service personnel and a bulldozer began working around the burned area to establish a firebreak and isolate the fire.

EVFD was released from the scene and returned to service at approximately 1:00 AM Sunday, August 16.

Etoile Volunteer Fire Department responded with Tanker 1, Brush 1, Brush 2, Booster 1, and eight firefighters.

Among those eight firefighters were several of our newest members. This was their first experience fighting a wildland fire, and they did an outstanding job. They worked hard, followed directions, and stayed with it through a long, hot night in difficult terrain. EVFD is fortunate to have these new members as part of our team.

🔥 BURN BAN REMINDER — AND THIS ONE ISN’T JUST ABOUT BURNING! 🔥

Our community is currently under a burn ban, and with the heat, dry conditions, little to no rain, and moderate winds, things can go from dry to dangerous very quickly.

We’ve been asked to remind everyone to please watch where you park your vehicles and equipment.

🚗 Please don’t park in dry grassy areas. Hot exhaust systems can get hot enough to ignite that grass—even if you had absolutely NO intention of starting a fire. Nobody wants their vehicle to accidentally become a fire starter!

Also, please don’t leave vehicles or side-by-sides running while parked in dry grass or wooded areas. We know many of you are heading out to check on and prepare your deer blinds for hunting season. We just ask that you be extra careful when taking your side-by-sides and other vehicles into the woods.

Right now, everything is dry, and it doesn’t take much to start a fire.

So, during this burn ban:
🚫 Please don’t burn.
🚫 Please don’t park in dry grass.
🚫 Please don’t leave running vehicles or equipment sitting in dry vegetation.
✅ And please help us keep our community safe!

We promise—we’d much rather see you getting ready for hunting season than getting ready to explain to a firefighter why your side-by-side decided to start a bonfire. 😳🔥😂

The Etoile Volunteer Fire Department is fortunate to be supported by our community in so many ways. From donations made through water bills, to the support of our annual fundraisers, to the likes, shares, and comments on our page, it all makes a difference.

Today, we’d like to recognize another example of that support.

The next time you drive by our main fire station, take a look at our new sign. The sign was designed and fabricated by Nacogdoches businesses, Monday Sign Service and Armadillo Signs.

Jason Monday contacted the fire department and offered to provide the new sign as a donation. We think it turned out great and are proud to have it displayed at the station.

The Etoile Volunteer Fire Department sincerely appreciates Jason and all the employees of Monday Signs Service and Armadillo Signs for their generosity and support of our department and community.

Around 1:15 PM on Thursday, August 13, the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire on FM 226 near County Road 475. The initial report indicated that the grass fire was spreading into the surrounding woods.

Arriving units found that a tree had fallen against power lines, sparking the fire. Several passing motorists had stopped and were working to help prevent the fire from spreading.

Within a short period of time, firefighters contained the fire and brought it under control.

The Etoile Volunteer Fire Department responded with Tanker 1, Brush 1, Brush 2, and six firefighters.

EVFD would like to acknowledge and thank the ladies from Etoile Water Supply, along with several unnamed motorists who stopped to assist with the fire and help with traffic control. Their willingness to stop and lend a hand was greatly appreciated.
