FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 25, 2026

Statement from Acting Chief Ditty Regarding Incident at Valley Green Village and the Police Department’s Zero-Tolerance Stance on Criminal Behavior.

On Sunday evening at approximately 8:00 p.m., a large altercation involving multiple juveniles and adults occurred near the basketball courts on North Conley Lane within the Valley Green Village community. During the incident, an adult female was armed with a knife.

Newberry Township Police Officers arrived on scene within one minute of being dispatched and immediately requested additional law enforcement resources to safely and effectively bring the situation under control.

As a result of the incident, an adult female was taken into custody and transported to the York County Processing Center. She has been charged for her actions during the incident. Additional individuals involved have been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing. Criminal charges are expected to be filed against numerous additional participants, including both adults and juveniles.

MESSAGE FROM ACTING CHIEF BRAXTON DITTY

"The conduct displayed during this incident is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Newberry Township. Our parks, neighborhoods, and recreational areas are intended to be safe places for families, children, and residents to gather, not locations for violence, intimidation, threats, or disorderly behavior.

Over the past several weeks, the Newberry Township Police Department has increased patrols in the Valley Green Village area in response to community concerns. Our officers have made an effort not only to provide a visible law enforcement presence, but also to build positive relationships with the youth in the neighborhood. Officers have spent time engaging with young people, talking with them, and even joining them on the basketball court. We believe strongly in community policing and in building trust through positive interactions.

However, while we will continue to be present and engaged in the community, we cannot be everywhere at all times. Ultimately, every individual is responsible for their own actions and decisions. When those decisions involve violence, threats, harassment, or other criminal conduct, there will be consequences.

Let me be absolutely clear: Anyone who chooses to engage in criminal activity in our community should expect to be investigated, identified, arrested, and prosecuted when appropriate. The Newberry Township Police Department will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to violence, weapons offenses, assaults, harassment, and any behavior that threatens the safety and quality of life of our residents.

I want to commend the officers who responded rapidly and professionally to a chaotic and potentially dangerous situation. Their swift actions, along with the assistance of our law enforcement partners, helped restore order and ensure the safety of those present.

To anyone considering similar behavior in the future, understand this: Our department will pursue every available investigative lead, review all available evidence, and hold offenders accountable. We will not allow a small number of individuals to disrupt our community, intimidate our residents, or jeopardize public safety.”

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication displayed by those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we cherish every day.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their legacy will continue to live on through the grateful citizens they served and protected. As we spend time with family and friends we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember the heroes who paid the highest price for our freedom.

On behalf of the Newberry Township Police Department, we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served, and especially to those who gave everything for our country.

May we always honor their memory. 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

🚔 K9 APPREHENSION — WHEN YOU RUN IN NEWBERRY, YOU’RE RUNNING OUT OF LUCK 🚔

Energy was high on May 1, 2026 and so was the determination of Newberry Township Police to shut down a dangerous situation fast. When a suspected (and later confirmed) impaired driver decided to turn a routine stop into a reckless escape attempt, Sgt Martinez didn’t hesitate. We moved. We pursued. We closed in. We Apprehended.

After observing multiple violations, Sergeant Martinez attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver chose to flee, speeding through township roads and putting the public at risk. That’s when the pursuit shifted gears, and so did we.

When the suspect ditched the vehicle and ran, K9 Rico took the lead. With precision and power, Rico ended the foot chase almost as soon as it began, allowing officers to bring the suspect safely into custody despite resistance.

The 37‑year‑old Maryland man now faces charges that include:

• DUI
• Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer
• Resisting Arrest
• Evading Arrest
• Disregard Traffic Lane
• Driving Vehicle at Safe Speed
• Reckless Driving
• Careless Driving

Huge credit to Sergeant Martinez and K9 Rico for their discipline, and teamwork. Their actions brought a dangerous situation to a decisive, safe conclusion. Our K-9 partners provide protection and assistance to our officers to resolve dangerous situations quickly and efficiently.

Newberry Township Police remains clear in our message: If you endanger this community, we will find you and we will stop you quickly and professionally using the tools and resources our department is fortunate enough to have. 🇺🇸🐕

Note: All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Newberry Township Police Department is proud to share that Lt. Ditty, Sgt.Taylor, Sgt. Bloom, Sgt.Nauman, and Sgt.Martinez represented our agency at the 2026 FBI Eastern Chapter Retrainer Conference this weekend.

Not only did our ranking team attend, but Lt. Ditty continues to serve on the Eastern Chapter Executive Board, helping shape training standards and leadership development across the region. His involvement reflects the level of commitment our agency brings to professional growth and excellence.

This is leadership from the front and leadership like this, leadership that invests in its people, pushes an agency forward, and sets a standard for others to follow, does not come around often. Our ranking officers continue to demonstrate what it means to adapt, grow, and strive for the highest levels of professionalism.

Their dedication is the catalyst that drives our department forward, and Newberry Township is stronger because of it.

🇺🇸 National Police Week | Honoring Service & Sacrifice

This week, we join communities across the nation in recognizing National Police Week. its a time dedicated to honoring the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers everywhere.

For the Newberry Township Police Department, this week carries deep meaning. It is a reminder of the prestige of the badge, the weight of responsibility it represents, and the unwavering dedication required to protect and serve. It is also a time to honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives so others could be safe. We carry their memory with pride, gratitude, and humility.

But behind every uniform is a story.
A life.
A family.
A human being.

The photo we’re sharing today reflects that truth. Beyond being police officers, we are:

Husbands. Wives. Fathers. Mothers. Sons. Daughters. Brothers. Sisters. Friends.
We are members of this community, your neighbors, who care deeply about the people we serve.

As we observe National Police Week, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by officers past and present, and to recognize the humanity behind the badge. Your support means more than you know.

To those who have fallen, we honor you.
To those who continue to serve, we stand with you.

To our community, thank you for standing with us.

📱🚗 ATTENTION DRIVERS – NEW LAW TAKING EFFECT JUNE 6, 2026! 🚗📱

We are one month away, and starting June 6, 2026, Pennsylvania will begin enforcing "Paul Miller's Law" - and that means $50 fines for holding or using a handheld cell phone while driving. No exceptions.

Here's how to stay safe AND fine-free behind the wheel:

✅ Can't wait for that text? Pull over in a safe location first.
✅ Have a passenger? Make them your "designated texter!"
✅ Turn on your phone's Do Not Disturb feature before you start driving.
🚫 And please — no scrolling social media while driving.

Remember: distracted driving isn't just about phones. Anything that takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, or your mind off driving is a distraction.

Driver behavior is the leading factor in 83% of crashes in Pennsylvania each year. Let's change that — one safe driver at a time.

Stay safe out there! — Newberry Township Police Department
