Yesterday, we started a BIG project in our E (picture book) section. We are moving all the books to clear bins so the book covers are now forward facing. We believe this will help our readers find new books to love, it will increase book checkouts, and it really makes the section more inviting and welcoming! The post it labels are just temporary; I will create permanent labels soon! Many thanks to Jan Raspen and Lauren Lancaster for their help!

We were so proud to partner with Matoaca Elementary School this month in writing uplifting messages to community members who might need some extra love this Thanksgiving and who are patrons of the motel outreach program of the Chesterfield Food Bank. Each will receive a handwritten note and a bag of candy to sweeten their day. Thank you Christie Archer for inviting Ettrick to take part!

These two photos are the result of generous donations by Mr. Kevin Carroll, our Matoaca region Supervisor and from Mr. Steve Paranto, our School Board representative from the Matoaca district. WOW! All of these books will go into our vending machine and then into our students’ hands and homes! Thank you Mr. Carroll and Mr. Paranto- if you know them personally, please thank them, too!

On Tuesday, Ms. Hodges’ fifth grade class started to work on their food truck projects. Last week we began by reading a biography of Jose Andres for inspiration and discussing the meaning of a nonprofit organization. Next, the students are designing their food trucks and thinking of a menu. They will also identify an area of need where their food truck might help. All of our fifth graders will complete this activity and I am excited to see their creativity!

Library night was so fun! We had a good crowd who enjoyed the Fourth of July craft, checking out books, and talking to our fabulous teachers! Special thanks to Sarah Fortier, Michelle Dorchak and Bonnie Dance! Our new library itinerant, Lauren Lancaster, also came and she will be an AMAZING addition to our staff! Our next library night is July 10th!

Mrs. Feest outdid herself on our Super Bowl decorations! Thank you to Ms. Deal for this photo!
We also had a contest this week- students could vote on the team they think will win. From the winning guesses, we will draw names to win a brand new book from our vending machine! Will it be Fly, Eagles Fly or Taylor's boyfriend's team?

Kindergarteners enjoyed library stations today! They chose from the Lego table, a Stick Together poster, Play Doh, a jigsaw puzzle, or coloring a bookmark. They shared and worked well together. Clean up went well too!
