It’s a rarity these days for a government organization to adjust to what its citizens are saying. But local governments have the advantage and responsibility of being government that is closest to the people. And we are listening to our people. The past few storms we’ve experienced have resulted in numerous alerts sent out to many of our residents. Part of that is because every time a new county is added to the existing alert, another alert goes out. After last year’s tornado, many of you are ok with being alerted no matter what and some of you are not. Both are understandable. Based on that knowledge, our Emergency Management Director has adjusted the alerts to only go out for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Tornado Watches, and Tornado Warnings. When it comes to storm alerts we want to find that balance of informative and life-saving versus the alerts being ignored altogether. Having said that, make sure you have more than one way to be alerted about severe weather. The Rave System was the option we went with after CodeRed was hacked last year and became inoperable. We are also working on a Pulaski County Government app to keep you informed and up to date across all of local government. Your weather apps on your smartphones can keep you informed as well. Also follow The National Weather Service Jackson, KY on your social media accounts.
