The Delaware County Commissioners extended the countywide burn ban until Nov. 12 at their meeting on Tuesday. The burn ban is being extended because of dry conditions combined with gusty winds.

The burn ban was initially approved Oct. 8. This includes burning trash, starting a campfire, or grilling with charcoal or wood that could have exposed embers. Anyone caught burning during a ban faces up to a $500 fine and a year in jail.

The Forestry Division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture indicated there are now 43 Oklahoma counties with burn bans in effect. Read the full story in next week's Delaware County Journal.
