🌟 Friends Friday Spotlight: Becky Crowe (she/her), Trustee 🌟

Becky Crowe (she/her) moved to Eugene sight unseen in 2017 to begin the Special Education doctoral program at the University of Oregon. Originally from Maryland, Becky taught elementary-age students with autism in North Carolina before coming west, and she’s also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Her years of teaching and advocacy have focused on building communication systems for students with severe and multiple disabilities—ensuring every student has reliable and consistent ways to express themselves and access opportunities.

Becky first heard about Friends of 90by30 through a colleague and was drawn to the mission and programming, especially its potential to include students with disabilities—an especially vulnerable population—within prevention efforts. For Becky, child abuse prevention is inseparable from ensuring all children, regardless of ability, have safe and supportive environments to thrive.

Outside of her work and advocacy, Becky is a busy mom of two (a toddler and an infant!) who loves reading across genres, hiking, camping, and powerlifting in her garage. 💙

🌟 Friends Friday Spotlight: Georgia Johnston (she/they), Trustee 🌟

Georgia Johnston moved to Lane County about four years ago to attend the University of Oregon and now works at a nonprofit mental health organization in the community.

Georgia first connected with Friends of 90by30 through VOICES, a UO student organization dedicated to spreading awareness about child abuse prevention alongside the Center for Childhood Safety and Wellbeing. Her three years with VOICES highlighted how meaningful and impactful this work is, inspiring her to continue serving on the Friends of 90by30 board after graduation.

Outside of her advocacy work, Georgia enjoys reading, crocheting, and spending time outdoors. 💙

🌟 Friends Friday Spotlight: Aly (they/them), Trustee 🌟

Aly moved to Eugene in 2020 to pursue a degree in Public Policy at the University of Oregon and now serves as the Communications Coordinator at Greenhill Humane Society. They also worked as an early childhood educator in Eugene for three years, an experience that continues to inform their ongoing education and digital advocacy work.

Aly first connected with Friends of 90by30 through their previous position at Our Children Oregon as their Communications and Policy Coordinator, and was inspired by the mission of promoting child safety and wellbeing at the local level. For Aly, child abuse prevention matters because all kids deserve to be valued, heard, and respected. They see advocacy as a way to challenge and disrupt power dynamics that can harm children, and they use their voice to stand up for young people’s safety and needs.

Aly is especially passionate about supporting q***r and neurodivergent youth and incorporating lessons of consent and autonomy into early education. They are also deeply committed to supporting families experiencing economic hardship across Oregon. In their free time, Aly loves to garden, cuddle with their two cats, play video games with their partner, and look for cool rocks!💙

🌟 Friends Friday Spotlight: Sara (she/her), Ex Officio Board Member 🌟

Sara just celebrated her 10th “Oregonniversary”! With 25 years in nonprofit management and 8 years in the child abuse prevention field, she currently serves as the Associate Director for the Center for Childhood Safety and Wellbeing at the University of Oregon. In this role, she acts as a bridge between the 90by30 Initiative and the Friends of 90by30 board, where she serves as an ex officio member.

Sara first connected with 90by30 shortly after moving to Lane County and was inspired by the vision of linking every resident to efforts that support families. She believes deeply that at different points in life, we all both need help and have help to give—and that 90by30 can be the connector that brings us together in those moments.

Outside of work, Sara loves forest trails, live music, reading, and traveling every chance she gets. She’s filled with gratitude for the incredible beauty of Oregon and the many ways to explore it. 💙

🌟 Friends Friday Spotlight: Yasmeen (she/her), Treasurer 🌟

Yasmeen is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of Oregon, studying Family and Human Services with minors in Global Service, Psychology, and Criminology. A lifelong Portlander, she’s now based in Eugene for school. Yasmeen has been actively involved in the student club Voices of Change for Child Safety (formerly Students Against Child Abuse) for three years and volunteers with the Take Back The Night Foundation, contributing to school base research efforts.

She discovered Friends of 90by30 through Students Against Child Abuse and was immediately drawn to the mission of preventing child abuse and supporting families. For Yasmeen, this work matters not just in Lane County but everywhere—because every child deserves a safe, supportive environment to grow and thrive. Outside of her studies and advocacy work, Yasmeen loves to cook, hike with music, and spend time with the people she loves. 💙

The Center for Childhood Safety and Wellbeing was honored to attend and present at the Prevent Child Abuse America 2025 National Conference last week. So proud of the work being done around CSAW including Parent & Community Cafés, Protect Our Children partnership and the CSAW Youth Advisory Council. It was inspiring to showcase and learn more about the innovative and collaborative efforts happening across our nation to inform abuse prevention. Child Abuse is not inevitable!

Special shout-out to our key collaborators at 90by30 and Voices, who help make our work possible.

🌟 Friends Friday Spotlight: Julie (she/her), Board President 🌟

Julie came to Oregon in 1987 to attend school—and never left! Today, she provides public involvement services to cities, counties, agencies, and organizations through her work with Cogito Partners. With 30+ years of experience, Julie specializes in managing projects that bring together diverse interests, navigate complex regulations, and deliver clear, community-centered outcomes.

She first got involved with Friends of 90by30 after a friend asked her to help—and she immediately said yes. For Julie, this work matters because “our most vulnerable deserve to thrive, to be loved, and to grow up in a safe home.” When she’s not working, you can usually find Julie on the river whitewater kayaking or enjoying her love of dance—all kinds! 💙
