The Egan Warming Center is a coalition of community members representing service providers, nonprofits, faith and social activists communities and local government who have come together since 2008 to ensure that homeless people have shelter during extreme cold weather. Named in honor of Major Thomas Egan, a kindly gentleman who froze to death during a cold spell in 2008, the Warming Center missio

n is simple: to ensure that homeless people in Lane County have a place to sleep indoors when temperatures drop to 28 degrees or below between November 15th and March 31st. Vincent de Paul of Lane County serves as the primary agency responsible for implementing the operation of the Warming Center and building a sustainable model for the long term. The Egan Warming Centers season is coming to a close, and we need your help to pack up “The Zone” this Sunday, March 29.

We still have plenty of open volunteer spots for both shifts:
• 10 AM – 1 PM
• 1 PM – 4 PM

This is a great opportunity to lend a hand—no experience needed. You don’t have to be familiar with the site, and kids are welcome too. There will be a mix of tasks like sorting, organizing, cleaning, and moving supplies. Snacks and water will be provided, and the weather is looking pretty great for it.

This work matters. As we pack up for the season, we’re also looking ahead—this space has the potential to support our unhoused neighbors year-round, and your help makes that possible.

Join us at The Zone (530 Hwy 99 N, just north of Roosevelt) and be part of wrapping up another impactful Egan season alongside an incredible community of volunteers.

As the Egan Warming Center season begins to wind down, a few more opportunities to serve are coming up. ❤️

Donation Sorting Party
Help us prepare clothing for future activations by sorting donations that were set aside for Egan guests.

📅 Saturday, March 21, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
📍 St. Vinnie’s Cleveland Warehouse side yard
135 N Cleveland St., Eugene

You can sign up here:

Or simply show up and lend a hand!

👨‍👩‍👧 Families welcome: Non-volunteers—including children—can help with donation sorting. It’s a great opportunity for kids to learn about serving others in our community.

Stay as long as you can—many hands make light work, and we’re grateful for any time you can share. 🙌

We’ll also be sharing announcements soon about:
• End-of-season work parties to organize and pack up Egan sites
• An end-of-season celebration for everyone who volunteered or supported the Egan Warming Centers

Thank you for all the care and compassion you’ve shown our community this season. 💙

❄️ EGAN UPDATE & VOLUNTEER NEED ❄️

First — thank you to everyone who volunteered last week so that all Egan sites could be open for our guests. Because of you, our unhoused neighbors had a warm and safe place to stay.

A special thank you to the volunteers from Unitarian Universalist Church who came to Valley Covenant Church to help with morning clean-up. That spirit of teamwork is what makes Egan possible.

Egan is completely dependent on volunteers to provide that warm, safe space. 💙 Thank you for making it happen.

Second — ⚠️ We still have many open volunteer spots for tonight’s activation.

With some of our regular volunteers out of town, ill, recovering from procedures, or managing other commitments, the responsibility — and opportunity — falls to those who are able and available.

If you can help, even for one shift, please sign up.

Third — 🌡 Egan may also activate Thursday night.

Temperatures are dropping and are currently nearing activation protocol. You can sign up now for Thursday night/Friday morning in case activation is called later today.

Please watch for a notification this afternoon regarding Thursday night.

💙 Our neighbors are counting on us. Thank you for stepping up when it matters most.

EGAN VOLUNTEER POSITION: SETUP.
SHIFT TIME: Before opening (usually 4PM-5PM)

Volunteering to help with the "pack-in" is one of the best ways to get involved with Egan as it requires no prior training. Before the activation begins, volunteer crews arrive to set up beds, tables, and other equipment needed for an Egan Warming Centers activation. Additionally, there may be some meal prep assistance that is needed.

You will be able to meet site leads, other volunteers and get your feet wet before jumping in for volunteer shifts later in the evening and night.

Our next volunteer orientation is next week Tuesday, February 10, 2026 @ 7pm
7:00pm - 9:00pm
