Here’s something most people don’t know about Lane Fire Authority.
By Oregon law, property taxes- LFA’s main source of funding- can only grow 3% per year.
Over the last 5 years, their costs grew more than 10 times that rate. Personnel costs are up 41 %. Supplies and services up 44%.
At the same time, call volume has jumped 20% since 2021. About 80% of those calls are medical emergency.
On May 19 ballots asks for 55 cents per $1,000 of assessed value NOT MARKET VALUE. For a $400,000 assessed value home, that’s about $220/year to maintain current staffing levels.
This is what underfunded emergency services look like before a crisis hits. We can’t afford to be reactive with emergency services. We must be proactive and properly funding emergency services before crisis hits.
