In support of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026) and the nationwide call of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), employees, students, and campus stakeholders gathered virtually for the Online Volunteerism Forum titled โ€œIVY2026 at DDOSC: Commemorating 13 Years of Volunteerism on the International Volunteer Yearโ€ on June 2, 2026.

The forum aimed to strengthen awareness of volunteerism and recognize its role in promoting sustainable development, community engagement, and civic responsibility within the College and beyond.

During her presentation at the forum, Resource Speaker Ms. Fely M. Baday, Supervising Volunteer Service Officer of the PNVSCA, emphasized that volunteerism allows individuals to build friendships, connect with communities, develop skills, advance careers, and contribute to outcomes such as poverty reduction, increased income, stronger social connections, and safer and more cohesive communities.

Furthermore, Ms. Baday identified poor volunteer management as one of the biggest challenges in volunteerism, citing the lack of coordination, orientation, briefing, support, and guidance as common barriers to effective volunteer engagement.

Reflecting on the Collegeโ€™s growth, Dr. Lilybeth M. Matunhay, SUC President I, shared that volunteerism helped transform the institution into a dynamic hub of innovation and community engagement, resulting in stronger programs, wider partnerships, and more visible impacts.

โ€œVolunteerism became more than a responsibility; it became a way of life, and we learned that meaningful community engagement is not measured by how much funding is available but by how willing we are to listen, collaborate, and serve," she said.

Additionally, the forum featured the Volunteerism Highlight Video-Making Competition for employees, student publications, and students, providing participants an opportunity to showcase and reflect on the practice and value of volunteerism in the College through the years.
