Mississippi is raising the bar for school and district performance! That’s because of the tremendous progress our students and schools have made.
As Dr. Lance Evans shares in this video, new accountability standards will take effect in the 2025–2026 school year, establishing a new baseline for measuring performance across the state. Because of these higher expectations, many schools and districts may see lower letter grades, even if student performance stays the same or improves.
It’s important for our families and community to understand:
~ Nothing about the hard work happening in our classrooms is changing, only the scale by which it is measured.
~ This is why it’s important not to focus solely on numbers or letter grades. A single test on a single day does not tell the full story of a student, a classroom, or a school.
~ We must look deeper: at student outcomes, graduation rates, and college, career, and life readiness. That includes workforce development, real-world experiences, and opportunities that prepare students for success beyond graduation.
We'll share more about the changes as time goes on, but we always want to make sure we are proactively communicating with our community.
Grounded in tradition. Focused on the future.
