Wow - a local Eureka Springs graduate is publishing her debut fantasy fiction novel!!

With a wondrous cast of mythical beasts, haunting spirits and talking woodland creatures, "Mystery of a Witch" is not your typical fantasy fiction young adult novel. While this fascinating story includes adventure, action, magic and mysterious situations, it deviates from the norm with its treatment...

Who doesn't love a special secret passageway? :)

A tiny keyhole in the wood paneling turned out to be a portal to Britain's history — a passage created 360 years ago for the coronation of Charles II.

DID YOU KNOW? The underground event space of the Eureka Springs City Auditorium has been utilized for various activities throughout the years, including a gymnasium for the Crescent Women's College, a roller skating rink, and skateboard park. Pictured here are several sets of old roller skates recently found during a clean-up of the space. On Friday, April 12, at 8pm the "Gem" will once again provide entertainment to adults and teens for an all ages alternative music show, featuring live performances by the bands ME LIKE BEES and GHOST BONES. This will be the first of a series of "ALT at the AUD" live concerts happening on the 2nd Friday of each month. Brought to you by the Eureka Springs CAPC and the organizers of the annual Zombie Crawl.

Townies in the 1950's proudly referred to this shiny new edifice as an "Ultra Modern Public School Campus". Unfortunately, the years were not kind to this Eureka Springs Public High School, and much of it was condemned and demolished in recent years. However, the old Gymnasium remains and is now an integral part of the Eureka Springs Community Center. On March 22, the ESCC, Melonlight Dance and DJ Testube are inviting everyone to go back in time and experience a traditional 1950's sock hop in the old gym. Complete with twist contest, the limbo stick, root beer floats and more! Period dress is highly encouraged, so dust off your poodle skirts and bowler shirts, and practice your stroll. In case you're wondering why we're experiencing sinkholes again along Main Street, and how the Underground tunnels are related, here's an article about the town of Duluth that does a good job of explaining how/why this type of development occurred in the late nineteenth and early 20th century. As you can see, this is not something unique to Eureka, and will likely be in headlines more often as these tunnels age and our climate changes.

Duluth's aging tunnels can be ticking time bombs for homeowners, city.

There is a buzz about town over the sinkhole on Main Street as it has been excavated as far down as the old Leatherwood Creek tunnel. Check it out while you can. Next up...the old debate returns...just who will foot the bill for all of this work? The private property owner who owns the land or the city that uses the tunnel as the primary storm drain for most of downtown?

If you've visited our website, you've probably read about our interesting two-story sidewalks. Most of the sidewalks along Spring, Main, and Center Streets have an open, lower level that connects to the adjacent building. You can catch a glimpse of these hidden tunnels through iron grates and glass blocks embedded in the sidewalk, or when the city is tasked with unexpected street repairs. Here are a few rare views of the area in front of Devitos on Center Street, where a failing retaining wall required public works to open up the street!
