On August 14th we celebrate a great man, advocate, and community legend Charles L. Bean.

We honored him with the naming of our conference room. Now everyone that enters that room will hear about Charlie Bean and know the wonderful activism, advocacy, and support he provided for the Humboldt County disability community.

Through his many efforts we saw great changes to the Humboldt County region for disability access. He leaves a legacy that is hard to top.

Thank you to Carolyn Bean for allowing us to honor him in such a way.

TCIL is looking for Student Volunteers and interns for the next school year. If you are a High School or College student then we have volunteer opportunities for you.

You can fill out the QR form on our website to be interviewed for a volunteer or internship position. We have several opportunities throughout the year for volunteer work but our biggest volunteer day would be for our EXPO in October.

Sign up now so you can be trained, and ready to help support us over the months leading up to the EXPO, the EXPO and after the EXPO.

The QR code is found on the images above or at the home page of our website www.tilinet.org, just scroll to the bottom and click on the link.

A few things you may learn by volunteering or interning are:
-Community relations through tabling and outreach.
-How to properly install and uninstall a ramp for someone with a mobility disability.
-How policies work and are identified for the need in the community.
-How inclusivity of individuals with disabilities within the workforce can benefit their lives and the community.
-What accessibility in the workplace means and how to implement it.
-How to install a wheelchair lift for a vehicle.
-The opportunity to use previous knowledge to assist with office renovations and develop more skills.
-A greater understanding of emergency weather planning, as well as assistive technology devices, and budgeting and financial inquiries for office needs.
-Distribution of flyers and event materials while assisting with development, talent acquisition, and organizational participation.
-Networking with local agencies and government officials to discuss needs within the disability community.
-Connecting with local officials.
-Establishing recognition within the community through outreach, networking, and supporting committees and boards.
-Gaining a wider knowledge of the needs of the Humboldt County, Del Norte County, and Trinity County disability community.
-Gaining insight from community members through surveys on accessible community spaces and how to establish more accessibility.
-Supporting TCIL workers in accessing difficult-to-reach locations, and assisting with walk/bike/roll audits of city streets.
-And how to recognize a disparity within the community and understand the laws around ADA.

Join the Coalition for Responsible Transportation and TCIL for the Week Without Driving

This year's event will take place on October 1st-8th

Ride the bus, ride a bike, use carpooling. Experience Humboldt County without driving your own vehicle.

Many people do not drive and this is one way that we as a community can connect with those people and develop a greater understanding of how not driving can impact your life and your ability to traverse the county.

There are many ways to travel within our towns and cities: driving, walking, biking, busing, and car pooling.
