Two years ago, our Juvenile Hall Facility Manager Jason and Juvenile Hall Kitchen Supervisor Beth began the work to introduce our very own garden at the Juvenile Hall, part of Beth’s scratch cooking program to provide fresh produce to the youth in our care and custody.

Not only are the plants beginning to emerge as the weather warms up, but we’ve also introduced two new greenhouses to support a wider variety of food we grow and provide in our daily meals to youth. We can’t wait to share progress as we start to expand production!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we want to highlight our partnership with Children's Behavioral Health, part of the larger Humboldt County DHHS.

This team of clinicians and case managers work to provide youth in the Juvenile Hall and our New Horizons or Secure Youth Treatment Programs, services to improve behaviors such as impulse control, constructive coping, social skills, decision making, and clean and sober living. They continue to work with youth upon release, as part of the larger mission of rehabilitation and community safety here at Humboldt County Probation.

We are grateful for the knowledge and dedication brought to the partnership by the clinicians, peer coach and case manager. Pictured are Peer Coach Stacey, Clinicians Marian and Jennifer, and Case Manager Rick. Photo courtesy of DHHS.

After 31 years of service, Senior Probation Officer Jim McCue has retired from the Humboldt Probation Department where he has served as a Juvenile Group Counselor, Deputy Probation Officer, Supervising Juvenile Correctional Officer, and Senior Probation Officer. In his final few years, he has been assigned to the Adult Intake Unit, where he has conducted presentence investigations and embraced the task of preparing complex court reports.

Adult Division Director shared, "Jim’s humor and animated storytelling contributed to positive morale and comradery within the unit, and he was well respected among his peers for the historical knowledge that he brought to a conversation. The department offers much gratitude to Jim McCue for his years of dedication and hard work."

Thank you Jim for your years of dedicated service to the department and the community in Humboldt County! Wishing you the best on your next adventure!
