It was a beautiful evening last night for some joint training in Eureka. The crew had the opportunity to get hands-on experience with one of the fleet’s highly specialized trucks, Ladder 151. At the same time, pump training was underway on Engine 124, supplying nearly 1,000 gallons per minute to the ladder—while also doing a great job watering the grass!

Tonight crews from both stations gathered at the Goodfield training house to practice rescue operations, search and rescue, and got lots of time “on air”. Practice like this, in a safe and controlled environment, not only ensures that every firefighter has the skills, but also instills confidence in the event they ever need to perform in an IDLH environment.

🔥 TRAINING NIGHT
Our Goodfield Fire Station crew put several types of fire extinguishers to the test on a live gasoline fire tonight. Great hands-on experience for everyone.

🏠 HOMEOWNER TIP | Know PASS before you need it:

🅿️ PULL the pin
🅰️ AIM at the base of the fire
🆂 SQUEEZE the handle
🆂 SWEEP side to side

📍 Keep one in the kitchen (near the exit, not the stove), garage, and on each floor.

⚠️ Only attempt to fight a fire if it is small and contained, you have a clear exit behind you, and the room is not filled with smoke. When in doubt — GET OUT and call 9-1-1.

Spring is here - and so is brush fire season. Last week, crews from Goodfield and Eureka trained hard with live fire evolutions, brush truck operations, and suppression tactics at a local homeowner's field.

This type of hands-on training in a low-risk environment is critical for developing our newer firefighters - teaching them how to approach brush fires and familiarizing them with specialized equipment like water packs that only come out in these specific scenarios.

A special thanks to Deer Creek, IL Fire Department for assisting and providing extra water support, and to the generous homeowner for opening up their field for us to use!

I want to thank the Firefighters/EMS for the sacrifices and the dedication you gave to our citizens of our fire district and surrounding communities this year. This is a job a few will do, and I am humbled by everything you do. I want to thank the community, the board of trustees for your support in everything we do. I also want to thank all of our neighboring departments who assisted us this year. The EGFPD fire responded to over 320 calls this year. EMS ran over 1600 calls. We could not have done this without our dedicated people. I hope 2026 brings health, happiness, hope. Please, if you fill the need to join your local fire department, we will be glad to talk to you. We have a job for everyone.
