The Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG) is a Joint Powers Agency comprised of the seven incorporated cities (Arcata, Blue Lake, Eureka, Ferndale, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Trinidad), and the County of Humboldt. It is the designated Regional Transportation Planning Agency (RTPA) as well as the Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (SAFE). The agency is largely responsible for programming funds to build and maintain a balanced, multi-modal transportation system for Humboldt County.

Varieties in Rural Options of Mobility (VROOM) 2026 - 2046 is now available for formal public review! The public release draft of the Regional Transportation Plan lays out a vision for achieving a comprehensive, coordinated, sustainable and balanced multi-modal transportation system. Comments on the plan can be sent by email to [email protected], by phone at 707-444-8208, and by letter or in-person at 611 I Street, Suite B, Eureka.

Take the quick online survey and read through the draft plan on the project page. The comment period will close on Monday December 29.

There are two more lunchtime webinars this week! Tomorrow (Tuesday 11/25) join folks via Zoom or at the HCAOG office from noon to 2pm to watch "Missing Middle: A proven strategy for affordability and walkable neighborhoods."

Then on Wednesday 11/26 from noon-2 join the viewing of a panel discussion titled "Equity, Accessibility, and Design Decision-making."

Interested in urbanism and how to build healthy thriving communities where public space works for everyone? Come learn and explore these issues together in a curated webinar series hosted by HCAOG Senior Regional Planner Oona Smith. Building up or refreshing our knowledge base about best practices to sustain walkable/rollable places will help our community get ready for December 1-3 visits by the award-winning experts Dan Burden, Victor Dover, and Josh Meyer.

The first brownbag lunch webinar of the series is this Friday November 21 from Noon to 2pm! We will be viewing "The Essential Value of Street Trees in City Making and Sustainable Design."
