We had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs. Lemmon and Mrs. Gabbert’s kindergarten classes back to Station 1 for their annual visit!

Students had the opportunity to learn about the fire service, tour the station, explore our apparatus and equipment, and meet with firefighters. After their visit with us, they also stopped by to see our neighbors at the Eureka Police Department.

We always enjoy spending time with local students and sharing a little about what we do. Thank you for visiting us and thank you for the awesome thank you letters!

HUMBOLDT BAY FIRE – Press Release

Humboldt Bay Fire (HBF) crews responded to a first-alarm structure fire near the 3500 Block of M Street in Eureka shortly after 5:15 am this morning.

Upon arrival, the first arriving unit encountered heavy fire conditions with approximately 40% of the single-family home fully involved. Crews initiated a quick transitional fire attack, rapidly knocking down the bulk of the fire before transitioning to an interior offensive operation. Interior crews conducted a primary search of the structure and achieved a primary and secondary all clear, confirming no occupants were inside. The Incident Commander confirmed through Eureka Police and Fire Dispatch that the homeowner was safely located elsewhere.

Following the fire extinguishment, crews faced challenging conditions due to extensive hoarding inside the residence and conducted a labor-intensive overhaul operation. PG&E responded promptly to the scene and removed the electrical meter, enhancing safety for fire personnel. City Ambulance provided standby medical support throughout the incident.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

Humboldt Bay Fire would like to thank our dispatchers, PG&E, and City Ambulance for their assistance during this challenging early morning fire. Their quick and professional support helped ensure a safe and effective operation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Humboldt Bay Fire reminds residents to maintain clear access for emergency personnel around their homes. Keeping ornamental vegetation, personal belongings, and pathways clear can help
prevent delays during emergencies and reduce fire risk.

This week, Humboldt Bay Fire crews had the honor of joining Eureka High School students for the annual MURPH Challenge in remembrance of Lt. Michael P. Murphy and the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The MURPH Challenge consists of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, followed by another 1-mile run.

Thank you to EHS teacher Jeff Bird for the invitation and coordination of this meaningful event. We’re proud to support and participate alongside such a dedicated group of students and staff.

🚨 Heads up Humboldt!!! If you see a heavy emergency response at Murray Field on Thursday morning, don’t panic! It’s only a training exercise. 🚨

Heads up, Humboldt! The Humboldt County Department of Aviation would like to inform the community that Humboldt Bay Fire will hold a multi-casualty incident training exercise on Thursday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exercise will take place at Murray Field Airport, located on Airport Road in Eureka. ✈

The training exercise will simulate an airplane crash with multiple casualties, giving Humboldt Bay Fire firefighter/EMTs and firefighter/paramedics the opportunity to practice mass casualty response, practice executing the North Coast Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Multi-Casualty Plan, perform triage and set up on-site treatment areas. In addition, Humboldt Bay Fire will work closely with local ambulance companies and Providence St. Joseph Hospital to coordinate the rapid transport of "injured" patients to area hospitals.

This exercise is necessary on an annual basis for Providence St. Joseph Hospital to maintain its designation as a local trauma center.

During the exercise, airport visitors, Highway 101 travelers and those in the vicinity of Murray Field should expect to see emergency fire vehicles, ambulances, EMS aircraft and emergency personnel operating within a controlled area on airport property.

There are no planned street closures, and airport operations will not be impacted as a result of this training exercise.

The County of Humboldt’s Aviation Department is proud to partner with Humboldt Bay Fire to provide a location for this important training opportunity. For more information on the Humboldt County Department of Aviation, please visit FlyACV.com.
