HAM RADIO TECHNICIAN LICENSE CLASS BEGINS SEPTEMBER 14, 2026

The Humboldt Amateur Radio Club is offering a free class to help students prepare for the Amateur Radio Technician Class license examination. The Technician Class license is the entry-level license for Amateur Radio.

The class is free and open to everyone. Classes will be conducted live via Zoom, allowing aspiring amateur radio operators in Humboldt County and beyond to participate.

The class will meet for 10 consecutive Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, beginning September 14 and concluding November 16, 2026.

Topics will include:

- Radio and electronic fundamentals
- Station equipment and operating practices
- Procedures for communicating with other amateur radio operators
- FCC licensing and operating regulations
- Radio safety

The Technician Class licensing examination is scheduled for:

Hi Eureka businesses, let's get tsunami ready with the experts!

We’re opening up a handful of remaining spots in our upcoming tsunami preparedness workshops to local businesses. The first workshop is tomorrow, August 20, and there’s still time to join us.

The workshops will be held the mornings of August 20, August 27, and September 10 and will provide businesses with information and resources to help prepare for a tsunami.

Visit the Earthquake & Tsunami Booth at the Humboldt County Fair August 12th - 16th. You can find us in Hindley Hall where we'll have preparedness resources and activities for the whole family! Come by and test your safety knowledge and win a prize! The booth will be open from 12 - 9 pm.

Official NOAA CPC ENSO Strength Probabilities Issued July 2026

The bars show the chance of El Niño (red bars), ENSO-Neutral (grey bars), and La Niña (blue bars) provided for 9 upcoming, overlapping 3-month seasons (each letter represents a month, for example, F = February). The color shading within the bars indicates the chances of different categories of El Niño or La Niña strength (weak, moderate, strong, and very strong). Alternatively, the table presents the percent chances of each strength category in numerical form.

One Simple Step That Could Make a Huge Difference

If you haven’t already, take a few minutes today to add Emergency Contacts (ICE – In Case of Emergency) to your phone.

If you’re involved in a car crash, suffer a medical emergency, or simply lose your phone, first responders or a good Samaritan may be able to quickly contact your loved ones. It can save valuable time when every minute counts.

Be sure to include:
✅ Primary emergency contact
✅ Secondary emergency contact
✅ Relationship (Spouse, Parent, Daughter, Friend, etc.)
✅ Any important medical information in your phone’s Medical ID if your device supports it (allergies, medications, medical conditions, blood type, etc.).

Many smartphones allow emergency information to be accessed even when the phone is locked, helping emergency personnel get critical information without needing your passcode.

It only takes a couple of minutes to set up—but it could make a world of difference when it matters most.
